ATC WAS NOTIFIED OF A FIRE WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATION. FLIGHT DIVERTED TO NEAREST SUITABLE AIRPORT. CARGO SMOKE DETECTION LIGHT IN THE FORWARD BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT ILLUMINATED WHILE ENROUTE. THE ONLY ITEMS IN THE COMPARTMENT WAS A FLY AWAY KIT. THE FLIGHT MANUAL WAS CONSULTED AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOLLOWED. FLIGHT WAS MET BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT UPON LANDING. ON GEAR EXTENSION, THREE GREEN LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE RIGHT MAIN RED LIGHT CAME ON. AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING WAS MADE. INSPECTION FOUND, THE RIGHT MLG DOWNLOCK SWITCH CONDUIT PINCHED AND THE WIRES PULLED FROM THE CONNECTOR. THE CONNECTOR WAS REPLACED AND THE WIRES WERE SPLICED. THE SYSTEM WAS OPS CHECKED PER DC9 MM.
