DURING VISUAL APPROACH, SELECTED MLG DOWN, LANDING GEAR FAILED TO EXTEND WHICH RESULTED IN GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. RECYCLED GEAR WITH SAME RESULT, FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED THE GEAR RELAY CIRUCIT BREAKER TRIPPED. RESET CIRCUIT BREAKER & TRIED TO RECYCLE GEAR WITH SAME RESULTS. MANUALLY EXTENDED GEAR WITH THREE GREEN DOWN & LOCK INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED FAULTY LANDING GEAR MOTOR. R & R MOTOR ASSEMBLY & PERFORMED OPS CHECK IAW MM 32-31-00, NOTED CHECKED WERE NORMAL.

ON CLIMBOUT THE PILOT REPORTED A STRONG SMOKE LIKE SMELL IN THE COCKPIT. BLEED HEAT VALVES WERE ON. ELECTRICAL SMOKE CHECKLIST WAS COMPLETED. UNNECESSARY SWITCHES TURNED OFF AND SMELL SUBDUED. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO KDFW. DFW MAINTENANCE VISUALLY INSPECTED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, COCKPIT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND LOWER ELECTRICAL PANELS NO DEFECTS FOUND. GROUND RUNS COMPLETED, SMELL RETURNED WHEN BLEED HEAT WAS TURNED ON AFTER 10 MINUTES WITH THE BLEED HEAT ON SMELL DISSIPATED. SUSPECT ODOR WAS FROM ENGINE WASHES COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS SHIFT. NOTE - THIS WAS THE FIRST FLIGHT FOLLOWING THE ENGINE WASHES.

ATA 3425

ON DESCENT FOR LANDING AT KPHX THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE LEFT ATTITUDE INDICATOR BECAME ERRATIC AND STARTED SMOKING. THE PILOT PULLED THE CIRCUIT BREAKER, THE SMOKE STOPPED AND THE PILOT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED THE WIRING AND CIRCUIT BREAKER NO DEFECTS WERE NOTED. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS REPLACED. THE ATTITUDE INDICATOR HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND SHIPPED BACK TO THE OVERHAUL FACILITY FOR A TEAR DOWN REPORT. TEAR DOWN RESULTS WILL FOLLOW.
