PILOT REPORTED RT GEAR DOWN LIGHT DID NOT COME ON IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLIGHT IN SUBFREEZING TEMP. A BANGING NOISE WAS HEARD BEFORE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER LANDING, ACFT WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL HRS IN SUBFREEZING TEMPS AND AT PRE-FLIGHT, RT GEAR DOWN LIGHT WAS OUT AND GEAR WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. ACFT WAS DELIVERED TO MAINT IN ABOVE FREEZING TEMPS AND GEAR OPERATION WAS NORMAL ON JACKS WITH HYD MULE. ACTUATOR REMOVED AND EMPTIED OF FLUID. APPROX 1/4 TO 2/3 CUP OF WATER WAS REMOVED WITH MIL-H-5606 FLUID. INVEST SHOWED HYD RESERVOIR SERVICE PORT ON OUTSIDE OF NOSE BAGGAGE BAY WAS MISSING ITS ORIG SEAL. SUBMITTER SUSPECTED WATER FROZE IN ACTUATOR AND FORCED INTERNAL DOWNLOCK TO DISENGAGE. (X)
OLD UPLOCK HOOK CRACKED IN HOOK AREA. NEW UNPLOCK HOOK ASSY PN 5141312-10 IS MUCH HEAVIER. SUSPECT CAUSE WAS TIME AND NUMBER OF GEAR CYCLES.
JUST PRIOR TO AIRCRAFT BEING INDUCTED FOR 100-HOUR INSPECTION, PILOT INFORMED MAINTENANCE OF ROUGH RT MAG ON RT ENGINE. INVESTIGATION SHOWED SEVERE CORROSION ON POINTS, GEARS, CAPACITOR, AND BEARINGS. CHECK REMAINING 3 MAGNETOS AND FOUND IDENTICAL CONDITIONS OF SEVERE CORROSION. ALL FOUR MAGNETOS WERE CLEANED AND AFFECTED PARTS WERE REPLACED. PROBLEM BELIEVED TO BE CAUSED BY PRESSURIZED AIR FROM TURBOS.

MAGNETO FAILED, REMOVED AND DISASSEMBLED AND FOUND SEVERE CORROSION ON DISTRIBUTOR GEAR, PN M-3056, ROTOR GEAR, PN 3828, POINT SET M3081 AND CAPACITOR, PN M-3816. CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS LOCK RING HOLDING PIG TAIL ON CAPACITOR TERMINAL HAD CORRODED AND SPLIT LETTING PIG TAIL CONTACT HOUSING AND SHORTING OUT POINTS. SUBMITTER STATED IT IS CLEAR THIS IS BEING CAUSED BY PRESSURIZATION OF MAGNETOES OFF TURBOCHARGER. PRESSURIZATION LINES SHOULD BE REMOVED.
