AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT START. WHEN PILOT ENGAGED STARTER THE STARTER WOULD SPIN BUT NOT TURN THE ENGINE. ON INSPECTION NOTED THE SPLINES BETWEEN THE DRIVESHAFT AND ARMATURE WERE COMPLETELY ERODED.
HYDRAULIC PUMP TACH DRIVE COUPLING BRAZE WELDING FAILED, CAUSING COUPLING TO SEPARATE FROM DRIVE GEAR SHAFT. MFG SHOULD CHECK THE STRENGTH OF BRAZE AFTER WELDING. WHEN THIS COUPLING FAILS, LOSS OF ROTOR TACH OCCURS. (K)
IN FLIGHT NR INDICATOR DROPPED TO 20 PERCENT. REMOVED ROTOR TACHOMETER AND REPLACED WITH SERVICEABLE UNIT. WORK ACCOMPLISHED IAW MM. (K)
