ON LANDING, THE PILOTS NOTICED THE LEFT ENGINE HAD SHUT DOWN. THEY WERE ABLE TO SECURE THE ENGINE AND CLEAR THE RUNWAY, BUT NEEDED TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE MAINTENANCE HANGAR. POST FLIGHT MAINTENANCE RUNS DISCOVERED THE SUSPECTED FAILURE OF THE UNDERSPEED GOVERNOR IN THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT.
162AL WAS ON A NON-REVENUE REPOSITIONING FLIGHT FROM BZN TO MSO FOR TRAINING, ONE CREW ON BOARD (PILOT), NO PASSENGERS. THE PILOT NOTICED #1 ENGINE INSTRUMENTS INDICATED A ROLL BACK ON SHORT FINAL AFTER EXITING ICING CONDITIONS, THE PILOT LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. ALL AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS FOUND OPERATIONAL AFTER MAINTENANCE INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE TEST FLIGHT. FLAME OUT SUSPECTED DUE TO ICE INGESTION.
DURING A ROUTINE TIRE CHANGE, A MAIN WHEEL INBD BEARING OUTER RACE WAS FOUND SPINNING IN THE WHEEL HALF RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THE WHEEL BEARING BORE. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED CRACKS IN THE WHEEL HALF AT THE BEARING BORE. THE REMOVED WHEEL BEARINGS ARE SERVICEABLE. THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE LAST INSPECTED/LUBRICATED JANUARY 22, 2016 AT ACTT: 9403.3 HOURS, 77.2 HOUR BEFORE DISASSEMBLY. THIS WHEEL WAS INSTALLED NEW ON THIS ACFT DEC. 24, 2014 AT ACTT: 9084.0 HOURS. CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE WHEEL FAILURE IS UNKNOWN. THE WHEEL HAS BEEN SENT TO THE MFG FOR EVALUATION. THIS WHEEL/BRAKE INSTALLATION IAW STC SA497GL.
FOUND ELECTRICAL SYS FOR MEDICAL UNIT WAS MISSING A GROUND AND WAS DISSIPATING THROUGH CONTACT WITH FLOOR TRACK. MEDICAL CREW NOTICED SMOKE AT FLOOR UNDER UNIT DURING ENGINE START SEQUENCE. EVACUATED MEDICAL CREW AND DISCHARGED PORTABLE FIRE BOTTLE AT SOURCE. SECURED SYS. GROUND CORRECTED AND VOLTAGE DISSIPATION THROUGH FLOOR TRACK ELIMINATED. OXYGEN LINE REPLACED AND REROUTED WITH CHAFE PROTECTION.
