UPON TURNING ON AIR CONDITIONER, MED CREW IN COPILOTS SEAT OBSERVED A GRAY MIST FROM THE COPILOT SIDE AIR VENT, INITIALLY PERCEIVED AS SMOKE, BUT WITH AN ENG COMP WASH ODOR. DUE TO THE FUEL ODOR & THEN GRAY MIST, ELECTED TO RETURN TO BASE, ENTERED DOWNWIND FOR LANDING & HAVE MECH CHECK OUT.

ON THE AIRWORTHINESS CHECK, MECHANIC FOUND 4 MISSING RIVETS ON THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. 3 OF THE 4 RIVETS HOLD THE ATTACH MOUNT FOR THE TAIL ROTOR GEARBOX. FOUND A 4 INCH CRACK ON THE VERTICAL FIN SPAR. CRACK RAN FROM A LIGHTNING HOLE DIAGONALLY UPWARD AROUND THE CORNER OF THE SPAR.
