COMPLETED THE CARGO FIRE INDICATION CHECK LIST - BOTTLE DISCHARGED, FIRE OR SMOKE NOT PRESENT IN AFT CARGO PIT. FOUND AIRCRAFT A-LOOP DETECTION LIGHT ON. REMOVED AND REPLACED AFT CARGO A-LOOP, MFG P/N CGAB1400-00. A3 DETECTOR SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK GOOD PER AMM 26-16-10.

INSPECTION FOUND A 1 INCH CRACK THROUGH RIVET IN LT FRAME WHERE FRAME JOINS CABIN FLOORBEAM AT STA 616, LBL 64. THE CRACKED AREA WAS CUT OUT AND AN ANGLE DOUBLER REPAIR WAS INSTALLED IAW ECRA 5311-01158.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT REPORTED SMOKE COMING FROM THE NR 2 OVEN IN FIRST CLASS GALLEY WHILE INFLIGHT. THE OVEN CIRCUITS WERE DEACTIVATED AND THE SMOKE CEASED. THE FLIGHT WAS CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEM. MAINTENANCE FOUND COOKING GREASE IN THE NR 2 FIRST CLASS GALLEY OVEN. THE GREASE WAS REMOVED AND OVEN OPERATION CHECKED GOOD WITH NO SMOKE NOTED. NO OTHER DISCREPANCIES WERE FOUND.

FLT NR 397 - DEN - THE NR 2 ENGINE SUDDENLY SPOOLED DOWN WITH VIBRATION, IN FLIGHT AT 31,000 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DIVERTED TO DEN WHERE IT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE NR 2 ENGINE WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED. DISASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE REVEALED NR 4 BEARING FAILURE AS THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE ENGINE IN FLIGHT SPOOL DOWN. (M)
