Maintenance disclosures
MHT - AFTER LANDING AND SHUTTING DOWN OF AIRCRAFT PILOT SMELLED SMOKE. PILOT CONTINUED SHUTTING AIRCRAFT DOWN AND NOTICED VISIBLE SMOKE IN COCKPIT. ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS WERE CHECKED AND MADE SURE SMOKE WAS NOT FROM COMBUSTION HEATER. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED AIRCRAFT AND FOUND BAD FLAP MOTOR. FLAP MOTOR WAS REPLACED AND TESTED IAW BEECH CRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL 27-50-00. AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.
WHILE ON APPROACH TO MHT PILOT OBSERVED THE LANDING GEAR HANDLES TRANSITION LIGHT ILLUMINATE WITH THE "DO NOT REVERSE" ANNUNCIATOR. PILOT PLACED THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE IN THE DOWN POSITION. PILOT STATES HE DID NOT SEE THE DESIRED THREE GREEN LANDING GEAR LIGHTS WITH THE RED TRANSITION LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. PILOT MANUALLY PUMPED LANDING TO THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION AND THE THREE GREEN LIGHTS CAME ON WITH NO TRANSITION LIGHT. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE DETERMINED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD A DAMAGED RETRACT HOSE ON THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR ACTUATOR. HOSE WAS REPLACED AND GEAR WAS TESTED PER THE MAINTENANCE MANUAL. ALL CHECK SATISFACTORY AND AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.
LEFT HAND UPPER FWD WING ATTACH FITTING (INBOARD) WAS FOUND WITH CRACK DURING DYE PENETRANT INSPECTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH SRM AND AD 92-15-13. CRACK WAS ON THE TOP OF THE FITTING WRAPPING AROUND INTO THE COUNTER BORE RADIUS WITH THREE MICRO CRACKS NEXT TO IT. FITTING WAS REPLACED WITH FACTORY NEW PART. LEFT HAND LOWER FWD WING ATTACH FITTING (INBOARD) BOLT HOLE WAS FOUND TO BE ELONGATED DURING INSPECTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH AD 92-15-13. FITTING WAS REMOVED AND MODIFIED / REPAIRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH HAWKER BEECHCRAFT CORP. FIELD REPAIR DRAWING FR-CO-01604, REINSTALLED AND RETURNED TO SERVICE.
DURING DESCENT ON FLIGHT 1045 (BGR-MHT) THE PILOT ACTIVATED THE OVERHEAD PANEL LIGHT SWITCH. WITHIN 60 SECOND THE PILOT NOTED A BURNING ODOR (ELECTRICAL) BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE SOURCE. THE PILOT CONTINUED THE APPROACH AND LANDING WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT BY THE TIME THE PILOT WAS READY TO TAXI THE SMOKE WAS NOTICEABLE IN THE COCKPIT. THE PILOT TAXIED AND PARKED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT AND CONTACTED MAINTENANCE CONTROL. MAINTENANCE ISOLATED THE PROBLEM TO THE SW PANEL FAILING WHICH POPPED THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. MAINTENANCE COLLARED THE C/B, RAN THE AIRCRAFT AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WITH NO OTHER DEFECTS NOTED. THE LIGHTING WAS DEFERRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MEL 33-1. FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED A FAUL
AFTER DEPARTING, PILOT, SELECTING GEAR UP. AFTER THIS THE PILOT NOTED A STRONG ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. THE PILOT ELECTED TO RETURN TO DEPARTURE. ON VERY SHORT FINAL APPROACH, THE PILOT NOTED THE GEAR WAS NOT FULLY LOCKED INTHE DOWN POSITION AS INDICATED BY THE GEAR HANDLE LIGHTS AND INITIATED A GO AROUND AND DECLARED AN EMERGENCY. BY THAT TIME THE BURNING SMELL HAS DISIPATED SOMEWHAT. THE PILOT THEN HAND-PUMPED THE GEAR DOWN AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. A MAINTENANCE EVALUATION REVEALED THE HYDRAULIC MOTOR THAT DRIVEWS THE GEAR HAD FAILED RESULTING IN THE BURNING SMELL. THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED AND THE AIRCRAFT HAS BEEN PLACED BACK IN SERVICE. (K)
