PN 41789-000, FORK, ATTACHES THE ACTUATOR TO THE MAIN GEAR RETRACTION ARM AND DOWNLOCK CABLE. IT FAILED DURING A CYCLE WITH NO PREWARNING OF ANY KIND. WE ARE ALWAYS DOING A WEEKLY CLEANING AND INSPECTION OF THE LANDING GEAR. THE ONLY WAY TO FIND THIS POINT OF FAILURE IS TO REMOVE THE FORK AND MAGNIFY THE SHAFT. THIS FORK IS THE PART THAT RECEIVES THE MOST STRESS DURING OPERATION.
ON APPROACH A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD FROM THE RT SIDE OF THE AIRPLANE. THE RT OIL DOOR ON TOP OF THE ENGINE COWL POPPED OPEN AND OIL WAS SEEN STREAMING FROM THE COWL. AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH WITH A NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN INDICATED OIL PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, EGT AND CHT. WITHIN 5 SECONDS THE PROPELLER WAS FEATHERED AND THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE AIRPLANE PROCEEDED TO LAND NORMALLY WITH NO EMERGENCY DECLARED AND NO FURTHER INCIDENT.
PILOT REPORTED THAT AIR DATA COMPUTER INSTALLED AS PART OF THE FLIGHT SYSTEMS EFIS-SV SYSTEM WAS REPORTING A 100 FT ERROR. (K)
