REMOVED PAINT, OPERATIONALLY CHECKED NOSE WHEEL STEERING AND NO FAULT WAS FOUND. NOTE: THIS AIRCRAFT HAD A COMPLETE PAINTING 17 FLIGHTS PREVIOUS WITH NO DISCREPANCY. A POST PAINT INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED AT THAT TIME, THIS ITEM IS NOT PART OF THAT INSPECTION.

DURING SCHEDULED INSPECTION MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL FOUND RIGHT ELEVATOR OUTBOARD HINGE PLATE LOOSE WITH RIVETS (WORKING) AT ATTACHMENT TO OUTBOARD STABILIZER RIB. UPON DISASSEMBLY FOR REPAIR. HINGE PLATE BRACKET WAS FOUND CRACKED AND BROKEN AWAY FROM FORWARD EXTENSION APPROXIMATELY 5 INCHES FROM AFT END OF BRACKET. OVERSIZE CHERRYMAX RIVETS HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN INSTALLED IN THIS AREA ATTACHMENT TO RIB.

PILOT REPORTED AFTER TAKEOFF THAT AIRCRAFT SUDDENLY YAWED TO THE RIGHT AND REQUIRED NEARLY FULL LEFT RUDDER TO COMPENSATE. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL HAD REPAIRED RUDDER GEARED TAB GEARBOX PREVIOUS TO THIS FLIGHT. AFTER GEARBOX WAS COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED, INSPECTED, REASSEMBLED, AND REINSTALLED IN THE AIRCRAFT, THE AIRCRAFT TEST FLEW SUCCESSFULLY. APPARENTLY THE GEARBOX REPAIR AND/OR INSTALLATION WERE DONE INCORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME. DHC6 MM DOES NOT CONTAIN PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLING THE GEARBOX, AND THE ADJUSTMENT/TEST PROCEDURES ARE MADE CONFUSING BY A NOTE THAT SPECIFIES THAT IF THE RUDDER GEARED TAB IS NEUTRAL WITH THE RUDDER NEUTRAL NO OTHER CHECKS ARE NECESSARY.
