DURING A 300 HR INSPECTION OF THE VERTICAL FIN REAR SPAR, FOUND A 1" IN LENGTH CRACK AT STATION 9704.8.
DURING PRE-FLIGHT VISUAL INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT A 2.2500 INCH VERTICAL CRACK IN TAIL BOOM SKIN LOCATED ALONG CENTER WATERLINE, 15 INCHES AFT OF THE RT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER TORQUE TUBE WAS FOUND. INSPECTED AREA, FABRICATED TEMPORARY REPAIR IAW MFG CUSTOMER SUPPORT/ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT. FAA SPECIAL FLIGHT PERMIT ATTAINED, AND A FERRY FLIGHT OF AIRCRAFT BACK TO HOME MAINTENANCE FACILITY WAS PERFORMED.
DURING ROUTINE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE HYDRAULIC UTILITY POWER PACK WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AFTER REACHING OPERATING PRESSURE. THE PROBLEM WAS TRACED TO AN ELECTRICAL RELAY. THE CONTACT POINTS WERE WORN AND HAD INDICATIONS OF METAL TRANSFER. THE RELAY WAS REPLACED AND SUBSEQUENT FUNCTIONAL TESTS OF THE SYSTEM WERE WITHOUT FAULT. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE, WE ARE TAKING STEPS TO REPLACE THIS RELAY THROUGHOUT OUR FLEET.
