DURING ROUTINE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, A CRACK WAS FOUND IN THE FUSELAGE AFT UPPER LT CHANNEL. THE CRACK IS LOCATED WHERE THE CHANNEL AND THE AFT UPPER LT LONGERON ARE RIVETED TOGETHER. THE CRACK SPANS THE ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE CHANNEL.
APPROX 2 MINUTES AFTER THE LANDING GEAR WAS DEPLOYED AND A FEW SECONDS BEFORE LANDING, FLIGHT CREW REPORTED AN (UNUSUAL SMELL) ON THE FLIGHT DECK. NO OTHER WARNING OR INDICATOR WAS NOTED. LANDING PROCEEDED AS USUAL. ON POST FLIGHT INSPECTION, HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR WAS FOUND TO BE ABNORMALLY LOW. FLIGHT DECK FLOOR WAS REMOVED AND BELLY WAS FOUND TO BE WET WITH HYDRAULIC FLUID. VISUAL INSPECTION APPLIED TO SYSTEM, A SEEPAGE WAS FOUND IN A GEAR DOWN PRESSURE LINE, THOUGH NO VISUAL MECHANICAL DEFECT WAS NOTED. AFTER MANY PRESSURE CYCLES MICROSCOPIC PERFORATIONS IN TUBE AT STA 96.00 BECAME EVIDENT. REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER OEM EO AND AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE. (K)
AIRCRAFT DEPARTED, CREW NOTICED SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE CABIN AND COCKPIT. CREW ACCOMPLISHED EMERGENCY ACTION CHECKLIST, MANUALLY DEPLOYED OXYGEN MASKS AND PERFORMED AN EMERGENCY DECENT. THE PILOT IN COMMAND ELECTED TO DIVERT FLIGHT TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT FOR LANDING. A/C LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. REMOVED CABINET AND PANELS AND FOUND LIGHT TUBE (PN AL-1235-320), AT THE NR 2 RIGHT HAND WINDOW SHORTED AND MELTED. IN ADDITION THE ASSOCIATED LIGHTING ASSY WIRES, RECEPTACLE AND ADJACENT WALL PANEL WERE MELTED. PRELIMINARY INSP REVEALED THAT THE END CAP CONNECTOR OF THE LAMP ASSY HAD COME LOOSE. THIS CAUSED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT CONDITION. MAINTENANCE IS IN THE PROCESS OF CHECKING ALL ASSOC CONNECTORS AND POWER SU
ENGINE SHUT DOWN DUE TO FAN SHAFT RING GEAR PN 30770774-1 CAME APART. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE IS NOT KNOWN. PARTS SENT TO MFG FOR ANALYSIS.
