ATA 2710

ON DESCENT AT YIP, WITH TWO PAX ONBOARD, PILOTS EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN TURNING A/C LATERALLY TO THE RT. PILOTS WERE ABLE TO CONTROL A/C AND MAKE A NORMAL LANDING. THE LOCAL AREA TECH REP FOR THE AIRFRAME MANUFACTURER WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THAT THE AILERON'S MASS BALANCE WEIGHT HAD BECOME UNATTACHED, LOSS OF ATTACHING HARDWARE. MX WAS DISPATCHED TO MAKE REPAIRS AS WELL AS THE OPERATORS MECHANIC TO OVERSEE THE REPAIRS. THE A/C'S FLT CONTROLS WERE FURTHER INSP, AND NO ABNOMALIES WERE DISCOVERED. THE A/C WAS LATER FLOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER'S MX FACILITY FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ISSUED A MX AND OPS LETTER GV-MOL-03-0034 WHICH DISCRIBES THIS OCCURENCE. (M)

ON DESCENT, EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN TURNING ACFT LATERALLY TO RIGHT. PILOTS WERE ABLE TO CONTROL ACFT AND MAKE A NORMAL LANDING. INITIAL INVESTIGATION BY PILOTS REVEALED A LOUD CLUNK WHEN LEFT AILERON WAS MOVED PHYSICALLY. T/R WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THAT AILERON'S MASS BALANCE WEIGHT HAD BECOME UNATTACHED {LOSS OF ATTACHING HARDWARE}. MECHANICS DISPATCHED TO MAKE REPAIRS AS WELL AS OPERATOR'S MECHANIC TO OVERSEE REPAIRS. ACFT'S FLIGHT CONTROLS WERE FURTHER INSPECTED, & NO ABNOMALIES DISCOVERED. ACFT WAS LATER FLOWN TO MANUFACTURER'S MAINTENANCE FACILITY FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. MANUFACTURER ISSUED A MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS LETTER GV-MOL-03-0034 DESCRIBES OCCURRENCE, NO OTHER ACFT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED.

TUNGSTEN BLOCK (BALLAST WEIGHT) AT OUTBOARD END OF LT AILERON FOUND SEPARATED FROM MAIN COUNTER WEIGHT. BLOCK SLID FORWARD AGAINST WING REAR BEAM AND WAS RESTRICTING AILERON DOWNWARD MOVEMENT. PROBABLE CAUSE: LOOSE AND MISSING HARDWARE. ONE SCREW AND TWO NUTS FOUND RESTING ON LOWER REAR WING BEAM.
