PILOT WAS TAKING OFF. THEY HEARD A LOUD BANG. ENGINE LOST POWER AND VIBRATED. PILOT TURNED AIRCRAFT AROUND AND LANDED PLANE ON RUNWAY. SHUT DOWN ENGINE AFTER LANDING. FOUND NR 1 CYLINDER BLOWN. THREE QTS OF OIL STILL IN ENGINE. CYLINDER IS AN ECI CYLINDER. IT DOES NOT APPLY TO AD 08-19-05 DUE TO THE SERIAL NUMBER BEING OUT OF RANGE AS CALLED OUT BY THE AD. THIS IS THE SECOND BLOWN ECI CYLINDER WE HAVE HAD THAT IS OUT OF THE SERIAL NR RANGE OF THE AD. I RECOMMEND THAT A REVISION BE MADE TO AD 08-19-05 THAT WILL COMPRISE OF A WIDER CYLINDER ASSY SERIAL NR RANGE.

ACFT WAS DOING A STEADY CLIMB AFTER TAKEOFF WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND LOST RPM. PILOT LANDED THE PLANE BACK ON THE RUNWAY. FUND THE CYLINDER HEAD ON NR 4 CYLINDER COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF. PROBABLE CAUSE COULD POSSIBLY BE MORE DEFECTIVE CYL ASSY THAN CALLED OUT IN AD 08-19-05. THIS CYL ASSY IS OUTSIDE THE SN RANGE. RECOMMEND INSTALLING CYL ASSY. (K)

DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION THE AILERON CONTROL DIRECT CABLE WAS FOUND SERIOUSLY WORN IN THE CABIN OVERHEAD AREA. THE AILERON BALANCE AND DIRECT CABLES ARE SEPARATED AND GUIDED BY 3 PULLIES, P/N-S394, INDEX NR 30, CHAPTER 27-10-00, FIG 3 IN THE CESSNA PARTS MANUAL. THE CENTER CABLE WAS WORN EXTENSIVELY AND HAD BROKEN STRANDS. THE WEAR IS CAUSED BY CONTACT WITH THE PULLEY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE WITHOUT ROTATING THE CABLE AND EXPOSING THAT PORTION OF THE CABLE THAT CONTACTS THE PULLEY DURING LEVEL FLIGHT. THE CABLE AT FIRST APPEARS SHINY, BUT WITH THE AID OF A POWERFUL MAGNIFYING GLASS REVEALS MUCH MORE SERIOUS WEAR. OBVIOUSLY, THE FAILURE OF THIS CABLE WOULD LIKELY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF THE AIRCRAFT WITH LITTLE

DURING 100 HOUR INSPECTION, WHILE INSPECTING AILERON CABLES, FOUND FLAT SPOT ON THE LT AILERON CROSSOVER CABLE AT THE AILERON CABLE ABRASION STRIP ATTACHED TO A RIB ASSEMBLY LOCATED AT WING STATION 71.19. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND THE CABLE BEGINNING TO FRAY. THE CAUSE IS THE CABLE WEARING ON THE ABRASION STRIP. TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM , THE ABRASION STRIP BE LOWERED OR A PULLEY BE INSTALLED. (K)
