Maintenance disclosures
DURING FLIGHT, THE LT ENGINE ALTERNATOR STOPPED PRODUCING POWER DUE TO THE DRIVE CLUTCH SLIPPING. AFTER LANDING, REMOVED ALTERNATOR AND CHECKED THE DRIVE CLUTCH. COULD TURN THE CLUTCH BY HAND WITH SOME FORCE. REPLACED THE CLUTCH, REGULATOR AND ALTERNATOR. PERFORMED AND GROUND RUN AND THE CHARGING SYSTEM WORKED AS DESIGNED. REGULATOR REPLACED DUE TO THE RT ENGINE ALTERNATOR HAVING AND INTERNAL SHORT WHICH CAUSED A POWER SPIKE TO TRANSMIT THRU THE WIRING TO THE REGULATOR. NO OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS NOTED BEFORE FAILURE.
TRIM ACTUATOR FREEZING UP AT ALT. IN COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS, 10 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OR SO.
ACTUATOR WAS SHIPPED AS A SERVICEABLE UNIT. TEST PER SIL 1125-27-082 R2 ACTUATED WORM GEAR DRIVE TO MIX PC-10. FULL TRAVEL, BOTH DIRECTIONS. FROZE TO MINUS 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, MINUS 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR 1.5 HRS. BRAKE AWAY TORQUE OF 18 INCH/POUNDS OK. RUN TEST OF 12 INCH/POUNDS WOULD NOT PASS. UNIT WAS TESTED AND REPAIRED AND SHIPPED H6-96.
PART WOULD NOT PASS TESTING FOLLOWING SIL 1125-27-082 R2 FREEZE-UP TEST. ACTUATE GREASE IN WORM GEAR DRIVE TO MIX PC-10. FREEZE TO MINUS 50 DEGREES FAHRENEIT, MINUS 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR 1.5 HRS. BRAKE AWAY TORQUE OF 18 INCH/POUNDS OK. RUN TORQUE OF 12 INCH/POUNDS WOULD NOT PASS.
PART WOULD NOT PASS TESTING FOLLOWING SIL 125-27-082 R2 FREEZE TEST. ACTUATE GREASE TO MIX THE PC-10 IN WORM GEAR DRIVE FULL TRAVEL. FREEZE TO MINUS 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR 1.5 HRS. BREAK AWAY TORQUE OF 18 INCH/POUNDS OK. RUN TORQUE OF 12 INCH/POUNDS WOULD NOT PASS.

FROZE TO MINUS 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, MINUS 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR 1.5 HRS. BRAKE AWAY TORQUE OF 18 INCH/POUNDS OK. RUN TORQUE 12 INCH/POUNDS WAS VERY CLOSE. EEMCO SAYS THAT ACTUATOR PASSES THEIR TEST TO MINUS 65 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. ACTUATOR WAS INSTALLED PER ASTRA JET CORP. SUBMITTER RECOMMENDS BETTER FIELD TESTING INSTRUCTIONS.
LOST USE OF FLAP SYSTEM DUE TO BROKEN SHAFT OR BAD CLUTCH IN POWER DRIVE UNIT. UNIT FAILED DUE TO ACTUATORS BINDING UP BY FREEZING TEMP AT ALTITUDE. UNITS WERE TESTED PER S.I.L. 1125-27-082 PRIOR TO INSTALLING. CHANGED NR 3 RT ACTUATOR, OK FOR 26 HRS, THEN, FAILED AGAIN. TESTED AGAIN UNDER REVISED SIL 1125-27-082. FOUND ACTUATOR PER S.I.L. IN QUESTION. CHANGED 3 EACH ACTUATORS, RETURNED TO SERVICE.
PART WOULD NOT PASS TESTING FOLLOWING SIL 1125-27-082 R2 FREEZE TEST. ACTUATE GREASE MIXTURE PC-10 IN GEAR WORM DRIVE FULL TRAVEL, FREEZE TO MINUS 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, MINUS 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR 1.5 HRS. BRAKE AWAY TORQUE 18 INCH/POUNDS OK. RUN TORQUE 12 INCH/POUNDS WOULD NOT PASS.
FLAP POWER DRIVE UNIT FAILED. NR 3 ACTUATOR PN 674D100-18 RIGHT SIDE HAD HIGH INPUT TORQUE WHEN COLD-SOAKED FOLLOWING SIL 1125-27-082. CHANGED POWER DRIVE UNIT AND ACTUATOR FAILED SN 137 PDU, 26 HRS LATER. SUBMITTER SUGGESTS TO REVISE TESTING INSTRUCTIONS.
