Part: STRUT — LEAKING (MLG) · airframe 2,066 hrs
DURING PHASE INSPECTION MECHANIC NOTED BOTH MLG STRUTS LEAKING FLUID. UPON DISASSEMBLY TO REPACK STRUTS MECHANIC FOUND APPROXIMATELY .5 CUP OF ALUMINUM SHAVINGS IN INNER STRUT. FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND OUTER STRUT INNER BORE GROOVED AND GOUGED IN THE AREA OF UPPER BEARING TRAVEL. UPPER BEARING ON BOTH STRUTS SHOWED ROUGH, SHARP EDGES WHERE IT CONTACTS OUTER STRUT. OUTER STRUT AND UPPER BEARING REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS. MFG CONTACTED.

AT RUN-UP, FOUND EXCESSIVE MAGNETO DROP ON LT ENGINE, RT MAGNETO. REMOVED MAGNETO AND FOUND DISTRIBUTOR FINGER LOOSE ON DISTRIBUTOR GEAR. THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE. REPLACED MAGNETO WITH SERVICEABLE MAGNETO.

RIGHT MAGNETO, RT ENGINE OPERATED INTERMITTENTLY. REMOVED AND DISASSEMBLED. FOUND DISTRIBUTOR FINGER LOOSE ON DISTRIBUTOR GEAR. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. INSTALLED SERVICEABLE MAGNETO.
Part: OIL CAP — LOOSE (GOVERNOR) · airframe 926 hrs
AFTER LEVELING OFF AT 5,500 MSL THE CREW BEGAN LEANING MIXTURES AND THE RT ENGINE RPM BEGAN TO DROP AT A STEADY RATE. NO ENGINE ANNUNCIATORS APPEARED AND ALL ENGINE INSTRUMENTS READ NORMAL AFTER 15 SECONDS THE RT PROP WENT FULL FEATHER AND THE ENGINE WAS SHUTDOWN BY THE CREW. THEY RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, ON ONE ENGINE. MX INSPECTED ACFT AND FOUND THE RT GOVERNOR WAS LEAKING AT THE TOP OF THE GOVERNOR BODY. GOVERNOR WAS REPLACED AND ALL SYS CHECKED GOOD. GOVERNOR WAS SENT TO OVERHAUL FACILITY FOR TEAR DOWN AND REPORT OF INTERNAL CONDITION. UPON TEARDOWN A ROTATION OIL PLUG IN THE BODY HAD CAME LOOSE AND OUT OF BODY CAUSING GOVERNOR TO LOOSE OIL PRESSURE. DURING DISCUSSION WITH OVERHAULER HE STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE.
