Maintenance disclosures
WHILE TAXING ONTO RUNWAY 26L IN KATL, FLIGHT CREW RECEIVED A RED BAGGAGE SMOKE CAS MESSAGE. CREW REQUESTED TO EXIT THE RUNWAY; RAN THE APPROPRIATE CHECKLIST, AND REQUESTED FIRE AND RESCUE. THEY PROCEEDED TO THE RUN UP AREA, AND DUE TO A POSSIBLE BAGGAGE FIRE, CREW ADVISED THE TOWER THAT THEY WERE SHUTTING DOWN THE AIRPLANE AND THEN EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. FIRE/RESCUE CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO FIRE OR SMOKE. MAINTENANCE FOUND DUST AND LINT AROUND THE BAGGAGE SMOKE DETECTOR HOUSING, CAUSING THE ISSUE. THE HOUSING WAS CLEARED OF THE DUST AND LINT AND A SATISFACTORY FUNCTIONAL TEST PERFORMED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.
DURING CRUISE FLIGHT, THE PASSENGER INFORMED THE FLIGHT CREW THAT THEY HAD SMELLED "SOMETHING BURNING". ONE FLIGHT CREW MEMBER WENT TO THE BACK TO INVESTIGATE. AFTER WHICH, THE CREW ELECTED TO DEPLOY THE OXYGEN MASKS AND DE-ENERGIZE THE CABIN MASTER POWER CIRCUIT. THE CHECK LIST WAS FOLLOWED, THE CREW ELECTED TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY AND DIVERT TO THE CLOSEST AIRFIELD. AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES. MAINTENANCE WAS CONTRACTED TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE AIRCRAFT. TECHNICIANS FOUND THAT THE CABIN AIR CYCLE MACHINE HAD SEIZED. THE ACM WAS REPLACED, OPERATIONAL CHECKS COMPLETED WITH NO DISCREPANCIES NOTED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY RETURNED TO SERVICE.
