A REJECTED TAKEOFF. PILOT DETERMINED THAT THE RT ENGINE WAS NOT MAKING MANIFOLD PRESSURE OR RPM. AFTER RETURNING, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE RT EXHAUST PIPE WAS BROKEN AT THE FLANGE. THE PIPE WAS REPLACED AND THE AIRCRAFT INSPECTED FOR EXHAUST DAMAGE. THE PLANE WAS RUNUP AFTER THE REPAIR AND OPERATIONS CHECK WAS NORMAL.

DURING INSPECTION EXCESSIVE OIL WAS OBSERVED IN BOTTOM OF COWLING OF RIGHT ENGINE. THE LEAK WAS TRACED TO THE TWO FORWARD HOLD DOWN STUDS OF NR 2 CYLINDER. NOTE THESE ARE NOT THRU STUDS. THE CYLINDER WAS REMOVED AND OIL OBSERVED LEAKING FROM AROUND THE THREADS. THE STUDS WERE REMOVED BREAKING TORQUE WAS 8FT LBS. STUDS WERE REINSTALLED TO SPECS BUT STUD HEIGHT WAS INCORRECT. OVER SIZE STUDS WERE INSTALLED TO SPECS. RUN UP AND LEAK CHECK GOOD. UNABLE TO DETERMNE IF CASE OR STUDS CAUSED LEAKS.

DURING INSPECTION, METAL CONTAMINATION WAS DISCOVERED IN OIL FILTER. A CHECK OF VALVELIFT WAS DONE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT NR5 AND NR6 INTAKE LOBES WERE EXCESSIVE. NR 6 CYLINDER WAS REMOVED AND DAMAGE OBSERVED ON THE CAM LOBES AND TAPPET FOLLOWERS. NOTE: THIS IS THE 15TH ENGINE IN 3 YEARS.

UPON RETRACTION OF THE GEAR, THE BRAKE CALIPER FITTING P/N 754-857 OVERCENTERED INTO THE RIB CUT OUT AND THE GEAR WOULD NOT COME DOWN UPON EXTENSION. THE PILOT HAD TO 'G' LOAD THE AIRCRAFT AND EXTEND THE GEAR SIMULTANEOUSLY TO GET THE LEFT GEAR TO EXTEND. BOUNDRY LAYER RESEARCH ENGINEERING HAS APPROVED A CLEARANCE MODIFICATION TO PRECLUDE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE SUPER CHIEF II WING RIB REINFORCEMENT. STC SA002025E.
