DURING ROUTINE INSP EXCESSIVE OIL LEAKAGE WAS NOTED AT THE MODULE 5 OUTPUT MAGNETIC SEAL. CLOSE INSP OF REMOVED SEAL REVEALED NO OBVIOUS DEFECT. A NEW SEAL WAS INSTALLED WITH NO FURTHER LEAKAGE NOTED. (K)
AT END OF FLIGHT, PILOT SELECTED IDLE POSITION AND ENGINE REMAINED IN THE FLIGHT POSITION AND WAS SHUTDOWN FROM FLIGHT POSITION. A FAULT CODE WAS GENERATED THA THE START STOP SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE IN SOME MANNER. A NEW ENGINE START STOP/ON OFF SWITCH WAS INSTALLED AND THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. RECORDS INDICATED ATH 11 SWITCHES OF THIS TYPE HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN OUR FLEET WHICH HAS FLOWN NEARLY 50,000 HOURS TO DATE. (K)
A FAULT CODE WAS GENERATED AT ENGINE SHUTDOWN INDICATING A DEFECT WITH THE COLLECTIVE POTENTIOMETER. A NEW POTENTIOMETER WAS INSTALLED. THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE LATEST REPLACEMENT PART THAT THEY LAST MUCH LESS THAN THE 2000 HOUR SERVICE LIFE LIMIT. THE SAME POTENTIOMETERS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED LASTED AS LONG AS 4000 HOURS WITHOUT FAILING. SHORTLY AFT THE REQUIREMENT TO REPLACE THESE PART AT A 2000 HOUR INTERVAL IT SEEMS THAT THE QUALITY OF THESE PARTS DRAMATICALLY DECREASED. ENGINE ANTICIPATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT SIGNAL OF COLLECTIVE POSITION IS GENERATED BY THIS POTENTIOMETER TO CONTROL DECU SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE. (K)
FITTING FOUND CRACKED DURING POST FLIGHT INSP. A NEW FITTING MATCH DRILLED AND INSTALLED. THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT FOR THIS PART AND OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES ON SOME AC AND NEVER ON OTHERS FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. SOME SHIMMING IS SOMETIMES REQUIRED AND IF DONE POORLY THIS MAY AGGRAVATE THE CRACK DEVELOPMENT. (K)
