DURING FLIGHT, PILOT REPORTED THAT THE FIRE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN A FLICKERING FASHION, FLIGHT WAS ABORTED. NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE OR HEAT WAS FOUND AND TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES OF THE MM WERE FOUND INEFFECTIVE AT DISCOVERING WHICH OF (3) DETECTORS WAS FAULTY. RETORQING THE TERMINAL CONNECTIONS HAD RESOLVED A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE SEVERAL WEEKS PREVIOUSLY. IN THIS CASE PROBLEM REMAINED INTERMITTENTLY DURING SUBSEQUENT SYSTEM CHECKS. ALL (3) DETECTORS WERE REPLACED WITH NO FURTHER DEFECT NOTED. SUGGEST A DIFFERENT DESIGN DETECTOR OR QC IMPROVEMENTS BE MADE WITH THIS PART AS SEVERAL INSTANCES OF FALSE FIRE INDICATIONS HAVE SHAKEN CONFIDENCE IN SYS. IT IS QUESTIONABLE WHY THERE IS EVEN SUCH A SYS ON A SINGLE ENG AC. (K)

LOW MGB OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES DURING GROUND IDLE OF THE AC. SWITCH WAS FOUND OUT OF TOLERANCE. SWITCH WAS REPLACED WITH A SERVICEABLE PART WITH NO FURTHER DISCREPANCY NOTED. THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON FAULT FOR THIS PART. SUGGEST IMPROVED DESIGN OR BETTER QC FOR INTERNAL PARTS AS PERHAPS ON A THIRD OF THESE SWITCHES FAIL IN SERVICE. (K)

PILOT REPORTED NO LOW ROTOR RPM WARNING HORN (HEADSET BEEP) NR GAUGE INDICATIONS WAS NORMAL. SENSOR IS DUAL ELEMENT WITH ONE PORTION PROVIDING EACH SIGNAL FOR WARNING HORN AND NR INDICATION. INTERNAL WIRES ARE SO FINE THIS UNIT IS FAILURE PRONE, SUGGEST OPTIC SENSOR DESIGN. (K)

DURING ROUTINE PREFLIGHT/AFTER FLIGHT INSPECTION A CRACK WAS OBSERVED IN THE PAINT ON THE DOUBLER WHICH SURROUNDS THE ACCESS FOR THE TAILBOOM MOUNTED BATTERY AND WHICH AN ACCESS DOOR IS ATTACHED. A CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE DOUBLER HAD A CRACK THAT EXTENDED 37 MM FROM THE RIM OF THE ACCESS CUTOUT AT THE AFTMOST UPPER CORNER CUTOUT RADIUS. IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE ACTUAL TAILBOOM SKIN WAS ALSO CRACKED WITH A CRACK EXTENDING TO A RIVET HOLE IN LINE WITH THE CRACK AND ABOUT HALF THE LENGTH OF THE CRACK IN THE DOUBLER. AC WAS GROUNDED WITH OEM DEVELOPING A REPAIR PENDING APPROVAL OF THEIR DER. AT THIS TIME WE ARE AWAITING THE REPAIR SCHEME. AN INSPECTION OF THE REMAINING AIRCRAFT IN OUR FLEET
