THE SMOKE HAD DISSIPATED AT TIME OF LANDING. THE TEAR DOWN REPORT OF THE APU FROM HONEYWELL STATES THAT THE COMPRESSOR SEAL WAS FOUND WORN CAUSING AN OILY ROTATING GROUP TO INFECT THE BLEED AIR WITH AN OIL SMELL. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE SMOKE TO CIRCULATE THROUGHOUT THE CABIN.
ON FINAL APPROACH INTO ATL, SHORTLY AFTER APU START UP, THE 'SMOKE TOILET' MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE CAPTAIN IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN THE APU AND TRANSFERRED THE BLEEDS BACK TO THE ENGINE. THE MESSAGE EXTINGUISHED. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT REPORTED A SLIGHT BUILD UP OF SMOKY HAZE IN THE CABIN THE QUICKLY DISSIPATED ON LANDING. AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY IN ATL.
