THIS MLG CONTROL VALVE FOUND TO BE REASON THE MLG FAILED A SCHEDULED EMERGENCY EXTENTION CHECK. FOUND THE RETURN PORT CLOSED WHEN VALVE NOT ENERGIZED, PORT SHOULD BE OPEN IN THIS CONDITION & THIS CAUSED MLG TO HYDRO-LOCK IN UP POSITION. TEAR DOWN REVEALED ON 2ND VALVE NOT ASSEMBLED CORRECTLY, SPOOL WAS INSERTED BACKWARDS RESULTING IN PORTING NOT FUNCTIONING. VALVE FAILURE WAS NOT DEFINED DURING TEAR DOWN. VALVE S/N 1152 RETURNED AND FOUND THAT PIN NR 17 IN THE CORE ASSEMBLY BROKEN AT THE TIP. IT IS ASSUMED THAT THIS FAILURE OCCURED DURING THE REQUIRED TEST PROCEEDURE.
DUE TO SLOTTED PIN FAILURE OF THE OTHER GEAR THIS PIN WAS INSPECTED AND FOUND TO BE PARTIALLY SHEARED. PIN WAS REPLACED WITH NEW NAS561P628 PIN. THE AFT TRUNION SLOTTED PINS ON BOTH MAIN GEAR WERE INSPECTED WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED BUT WERE REPLACED WITH NEW. PIN WAS LOCATED ON THE FORWARD POSITION OF RIGHT MAIN GEAR TRUNION.
PREFLIGHT INSPECTION FOUND LANDING GEAR PIVOT PIN BACKED OUT OF TRUNION DUE TO SLOTTED PIN BEING SHEARED. SAFETY WIRE USED TO RETAIN PIN WAS ALSO SHEARED BUT DUE TO ITS LENGTH AND DIAMETER. IT STAYED IN THE TRUNION GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS SECURE. LT MAIN LANDING GEAR FORWARD PIVOT PIN.
SWITCH FAILED INTERNALLY CAUSING SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. DUE TO THE FACT THE SWITCH WAS AT FAULT, IT DID NOT TRIP AND CONTINUED TO SMOKE UNTIL SHUT OFF BY THE PILOT. (X)
UNDER NORMAL NIGHT FLIGHT OPERATIONS, PILOT SMELLED LIGHT SMOKE IN COCKPIT. RETURNED TO BASE, FOUND TURN CORRDINATOR INOPERABLE.
