BURNT RUBBER SMELL FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. MX DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WIRING HAD MELTED AT THE OUTPUT TERMINAL. THE ALTERNATOR & VOLTAGE REGULATOR REQUIRED REPLACEMENT IN ORDER TO RETURN THE AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE.
DURING A SCHEDULED FLIGHT, PILOT NOTICED ENG WAS NOT MAKING FULL POWER, PILOT RETURNED TO BASE & LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. REPLACED ENG ASSEMBLY DUE TO ITS TIME IN SERVICE & PREVIOUS OPERATIONAL HISTORY.
DURING FLIGHT, PILOT NOTICED ENG TO BE RUNNING ROUGH, PILOT ELECTED TO RETURN TO POINT OF DEPARTURE FOR EVALUATION. INSPECTED MAGNETO TIMING & ADJUSTED. TIGHTENED NR FIVE CYLINDER INTAKE TUBE CLAMP & INSPECTED FUEL CONTROL FILTER SCREEN, NO DEFECTS NOTED. POST MX FLIGHT CHECK WAS SUCCESSFUL WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED. ACFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.
ENGINE LOST POWER ON TAKEOFF. MADE A POPPING LIKE SOUND & SURGED, RECOVERED & THEN REPEATED. ACFT LANDED SAFELY. SUMPED WING TANKS, HEADER TANKS & FUEL STRAINER. THE ENG FUEL INJECTORS WERE CLEANED & THE ENTIRE SYS WAS SUMPED AGAIN. POST MAINT FLIGHT CHECK WAS SATISFACTORY, NO PROBLEMS WERE NOTED.
DURING CRUISE FLIGHT, SPINNER SEPARATED FROM AIRCRAFT. INSPECTION REVEALED SPINNER CRACKED MIDWAY BETWEEN BACKING PLATE AND FORWARD SUPPORT.
