Probable cause
FLIGHT INTO TREES WHILE RECOVERING FROM AN INADVERTENT SPIN AFTER A PILOT USED INCORRECT PROCEDURES DURING A SIMULATED ENGINE FAILURE BELOW VMC AND THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT DELAYED THE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS.
