Maintenance disclosure history
Service Difficulty Reports are self-reported maintenance findings. The NUMBER of reports is not a measure of reliability — diligent operators file more, not fewer. These are shown for transparency, not as a negative signal. To verify a report, search its control number at the FAA SDRS site.
Reports span 2008–2008. Most-reported systems: Ignition (74) — 2. Most-common natures of condition, as filed: OTHER — 2.
2 reports on file.
Part: BRUSHES — WORN (MAGNETO)
THIS IS AN UPDATE OF A SDR FILED 15 APRIL, 2008. MAGNETOS, FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL INJECTOR SERVO WERE SENT TO THE RESPECTIVE OEM`S. MAGNETOS WERE SENT TO MFG FOR ANALYSIS. THEY WERE SENT AS REMOVED TO PRECLUDE ANY FIELD CONTAMINATION. THEY WERE NOT PRODUCING SPARK DUE TO LARGE AMOUNTS OF CARBON DUST FROM ABNORMAL WEAR AS THE FIRST. DUST CREATES A PATHWAY TO GROUND EFFECTIVELY SHUTTING DOWN MAGNETOS. SINCE AC/ENGINES/MAGNETOS WERE MFG WITHIN YEAR OF EACH OTHER, AND ALL EXHIBITED THE SAME WEAR AT SAME HOURS IN SERVICE, WOULD THINK AN EXAMINATION OF MATERIALS/ PROCESS USED TO MFG CARBON BRUSHES DURING THAT PERIOD WOULD BE APPROPRIATE. Part: BRUSHES — WORN (MAGNETO)
AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE. ATTEMPTS TO RESTART ENGINE FAILED AND SAFE LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED. CAUSE OF FAILURE REMAINS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. MAGNETOS FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL INJECTOR SERVO WERE SENT TO THE RESPECTIVE OEM`S. THE MAGNETOS WERE SENT TO THE MFG FOR ANALYSIS. THEY WERE SENT AS REMOVED TO PRECLUDE ANY FIELD CONTAMINATION. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT PRODUCING SPARK DUE TO LARGE AMOUNTS OF CARBON DUST FROM THE ABNORMAL WEAR AS THE FIRST. THE DUST CREATES A PATHWAY TO GROUND EFFECTIVELY SHUTTING DOWN THE MAGNETOS. SINCE THE AIRCRAFT/ ENGINES/ MAGNETOS WERE MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE YEAR OF EACH OTHER, AND ALL EXHIBITED THE SAME WEAR AT THE SAME HOURS IN SERVICE, I WOULD THINK AN EXAMINATION OF THE MATERIALS/ PROCESS USED TO MFG THE CARBON BRUSHES DURING THAT PERIOD WOULD BE APPROPRIATE.
