CREW JETTISON HANDLE COVER WAS BROKEN. FOUND ON POST FLIGHT. THE MECHANIC REPLACED JETTISON DOOR HANDLE COVER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.

DURING ENGINE START AND PRE TAKEOFF CHECK, THE PILOT NOTICED AN AMBER ENG CHIP LIGHT WAS SOLID. ABORTED TAKEOFF. AIRCRAFT WAS TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. THE MECHANIC EXAIMED THE CHIP PLUGS AND FOUND METAL PARTICLES ON ENGINE ELECTRICAL CHIP PLUG AND ON MOD 1 SUMP PLUG. THE MECHANIC MADE A DETERMINATION THAT THE PARTICLES WERE FLAKES. PREFORMED A LEVEL B TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE. DRAINED ENGINE OIL , CLEANED ENGINE STRAINERS, NO MATERIAL FOUND IN THE STRAINERS. CHANGED OIL FILTER. GROUND RAN FOR 15 MINUTES. CHECKED PLUGS. RETURNED AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE UNDER MONITORING SUPERVISION. AFTER FIRST FIGHT OF 39 MINUTES, THE CHIP PLUGS WERE CHECKED. NEW MATERIAL WAS FOUND ON ELECTRICAL CHIP PULG AND MOD 1 SUMP PLUG. AIRCRAFT WAS TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT.

NORMAL DEPARTURE, AT APPROX 400' AGL; ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF, OPENED VALVE FOR THE WINDSHIELD DEMIST. AT 500 FT AGL AND BEGAN A TURN FOR A DOWNWIND DEPARTURE, AN ODOR WAS BECOMING OBVIOUS. IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE, FUMES BECAME OBNOXIOUS. COULD SEE SMOKE & HAZE IN CABIN. IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE DEMIST & CABIN HEAT WAS OFF. BEGAN A TURN TO FINAL AND DIRECTED CREW TO OPEN WINDOWS. SMOKE, HAZE, & ODOR CLEARED IMMEDIATELY. RETURNED AND LANDED BACK AT THE BASE. AFTER LANDING, TOOK THE ENGINE TO GROUND IDLE, THEN BACK TO FLY. OPENED HEAT AND DEMIST AND THE ODOR, SMOKE, AND HAZE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY. NORMAL SHUTDOWN COMPLETED. THERE WERE NO ABNORMAL ENGINE INDICATION THROUGHOUT THE FLIGHT. AFTER ARRIVAL, IDENTIFIED THE ODOR AS BURNED ENGINE WASH SOAP FROM THE COMPRESSOR WASH EARLIER, GROUND RUN UP TO CLEAR LINES, FUMES DISSIPATED AND DID NOT RETURN. ACFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.
