NOSE GEAR DID NOT RETRACT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES ON CLIMBOUT AFTER UP SELECTED THEN NOSE GEAR FINALLY RETRACTED. CAPT DECIDED TO CYCLE THE GEAR AND NOSE GEAR SEEMS TO EXTEND OK BUT AGAIN TO ABOUT 30 SECS BEFORE NOSE GEAR STARTED TO RETRACT PER CREW. ACFT JACKED AND THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS OPERATIONALLY CHECKED. AFTER SEVERAL GEAR CYCLES ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED. MAXIMUM RETRACT TIME WAS 22 SECONDS. THE LANDING GEAR WAS LUBRICATED AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. ACFT HAS FLOWN THREE SUBSEQUENT LEGS TO DATE WITHOUT INCIDENT.
EXTERIOR SKIN IS CREASED AT STA 2115 AFT OF DOOR 4 LT BETWEEN STRINGERS 22 AND 24. MAJOR REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED. EXT DOUBLER INSTALLED.

MODE CONTROL PANEL P/N 822-0195-102 REPLACED. PRELIMINARY FINDINGS BY COMPONENTS SHOP INDICATE A FAILURE OF A CAPACITOR (C6) INSIDE THE MODE CONTROL PANEL P/N 822-0195-102 (UA MR22411-63).
SECONDARY ATTITUDE AIR DATA REF UNIT (SAARU) FAILED INFLIGHT.
FLT RETURNED TO DEN DUE TO HEAVY SMOKE ODOR IN THE COCKPIT & FIRST CLASS. NO SMOKE WAS SEEN. AT FL250, THERE WAS A SHIFT OFF THE ENGINE, AT FL270 THERE WAS AN ACRID SMELL AND AT FL310-320 THE SMELL WAS VERY HEAVY IN 2A/2B. CAPT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY. F/O WORE THE 02 MASK FOR SAFETY. *S/D* BOTH PACKS WERE RUN AT HIGH POWER, BUT THE SMOKE ODOR COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. AS A PRECAUTION, LT AND RT OZONE CONVERTERS WERE REPLACED. AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO REVENUE SERVICE WITH NO FURTHER REPORTS OF SMOKE OR SMELL. THE 2 OZONE CONVERTERS WERE SENT TO VENDOR FOR EFFICIENCY TEST. EACH OF THEM PASSED WITH AN AVERAGE EFFICIENCY HIGHER THAN 90 PERCENT (COMPLIED WITH FAR 121.578).
EN ROUTE SFO-FRA, CREW RECEIVED ADVISORY: BACKUP ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. RETURNED TO SFO. *S/D* BOTH BACKUP GENERATORS FAILED. ORIGINAL GRIPES INDICATED INTERNAL ELECTRICAL FAULTS TO THE BACKUP GENERATORS. THEN, THE RIGHT BACKUP GENERATOR INDICATED A SHEARED SHAFT. BOTH BACKUP GENERATORS WERE REPLACED. THE MEL ACTION CONCERNING THE AD AGAINST A BACKUP GENERATOR SHEARED SHAFT WAS FOLLOWED. THE FINDINGS FOR THE BACKUP GENERATORS ARE AS FOLLOWS: (UAL P/N MR24250-506 AND MR24250-379 OR MFG P/N 20VSCFGEN01). 379 MAIN ROTOR ANTI-DRIVE END BEARING SURFACE FAILED. 506 THE EXCITER ROTOR LEAD WIRES BROKE ON THE MAIN ROTOR. COMPONENT TOTAL TIME AND CYCLE ARE NOT AVAILABLE FROM UNHI.
