IN CRUISE FLIGHT DURING PATIENT TRANSPORT ALL AVIONICS TURNED OFF. A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING WAS PERFORMED AT A SOCCER FIELD IN LOVELESS PARK. CORRECTIVE ACTION:RING TERMINAL BROKE OFF OF POSITIVE TREMINAL ON ACFT BATTERY POST. ELECTICAL POWER LOSS ON XPONDER, GPS 1, COMM PANEL, ADC, PILOTS EMERGENCY OVERHEAD LIGHT,
APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF FROM OUR HOSPITAL FOR A NICU TEAM FLIGHT; BOTH CREW-MEMBERS SAID THEY SMELLED FUEL. THE AIRPORT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME SO I INITIATED A LANDED TO THE KSPI BRAVO RAMP IN COORDINATION WITH TOWER. DURING MY DESENT, I REMEMBERED I HAD JUST TURNED ON THE HEATING SYSTEM RIGHT BEFORE THE CREW SAID THEY SMELLED FUEL. THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR A BRIEF PERIOD RIGHT AFTER THE HEAT IS TURNED ON. I ASKED THE CREW IF THEY STILL SMELLED FUEL AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT. I CONTINUED MY APPROACH, LANDED, CHECKED OUT THE AIRCRAFT FOR LEAKS, NON WERE FOUND SO WE DEPARTED FOR THE MACOMB, IL HOSPITAL AND COMPLETED THE NICU TRANSFER BACK.
AIR CONDITIONER FRESH AIR DOOR ACTUATOR INTERMITTENT AND STICKING IN FRESH AIR POSITION EVEN THOUGH RECIRCULATE POSITION SELECTED AND CAUSING COLD OUTSIDE AIR TO COME INTO CABIN DURING FLIGHT THAT OVERCOMES THE AIRCRAFT HEATING SYSTEM AND POTENTIALLY AFFECT EMS PATIENT CARE. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING, REPLACED THE ACTUATOR. ACTUATOR RELIABILITY VERY POOR AND WAS JUST REPLACED AND HAS BEEN FAILING TO OPERATE ON AVERAGE OF AT LEAST ONCE PER YEAR
FUEL FUMES IN THE COCKPIT.
DURING AIRWORTHINESS CHECK, FOUND CRACK IN BATTERY COMPARTMENT DOOR FRAME, UPPER AFT RADIUS ON L/H SIDE OF TAILBOOM. REMOVED PAINT AND CONFIRMED SUSPICION ON CRACK THROUGH DOUBLER AS WELL AS SKIN UNDERNEATH AS SEEN FROM INSIDE THE TB WITH MIRROR.
AFTER STARTUP & WARM UP ON GND, FUEL LEVER MOVED FROM GROUND IDLE TO FLY POSITION. MGB CHIP LIGHT ILLUMINATED, PILOT BEGAN ENG SHUTDOWN. GRINDING NOISE HEARD COMING FROM MGB DURING SHUTDOWN. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION BY MECHANIC FOUND HEAVY CONTAMINATION OF LOWER CHIP DETECTOR & FILTER CARTRIDGE WITH METAL PARTICLES.
ONE TENSION-TORSION (TT) STRAP ON TAIL ROTOR HUB, HAD ONE BROKEN BLADE FROM THE LAMINATED PACK THAT WAS DISCOVERED DURING AN INSPECTION/CLEANING OF THE TAIL ROTOR HUB. NO DISCREPANCIES WERE NOTED PRIOR TO ITS DISCOVERY DURING FLIGHT OR SHUTDOWN. THE BROKEN BLADE WAS A CLEAN CUT ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TT STRAP. NO OTHER DAMAGE OR DEFECTS OBSERVED AND NO INDICATION TO THE POTENTIAL CAUSE.
