AIRCRAFT WRITTEN UP BY PIC FOR LARGE OIL LEAK, NR 2 ENGINE. INSPECTION REVEALED NR 3 CYLINDER (P/N LW-12966) HAD A GASKET (P/N 66732) INSTALLED INCORRECTLY UNDER ROCKER SHAFT COVER (P/N 72710). COVER IS SECURED WITH 2 SCREWS (P/N 72709). THIS ENGINE WAS RECEIVED FROM LYCOMING AS A FACTORY REMANUFACTURED UNIT AND ACCUMULATED ONLY 44.7 HRS TIS UNTIL LEAK WAS DISCOVERED. AFFECTED PARTS WERE INSTALLED BY MANUFACTURER AND NOT DISTURBED BY COMPANY PERSONNEL UNTIL DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED.

DURING INSPECTION EXHAUST STAIN WAS OBSERVED ON THE TURBOCHARGER MOUNT IN THE AREA WHERE THE TURBOCHARGER AND THE TRANSITION MEET AND FACE THE TURBO MOUNT. THE TURBO WAS REMOVED AND A CRACK WAS FOUND IN THE DIVIDE WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSITION TO WARP AND LEAK EXHAUST GASES. THE PART WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED.

UPON INSPECTING THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR TO C/W AD 2001-8-1 IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REGULATOR WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY FROM THE LOWER BODY PARTING SURFACES. REMOVED AND REPLACED UNIT, LEAK CHECK GOOD.

PILOT REPORTED LEFT MAIN GEAR INDICATED NOT LOCKED ON APPROACH. AIRCRAFT DID A FLYBY AND GEAR WAS OBSERVED DOWN AND LOCKED. AIRCRAFT MADE A NORMAL LANDING. UPON INSPECTING THE DOWN LOCK SWITCH, A WORE WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BREAK IN IT. A REPAIR WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH A IN LINE CONNECTOR (BUTT SPLICE). A GEAR RETRACTION TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.

ATA 2421

PILOT REPORTED LEFT ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND COULD NOT RESET CIRCUIT BREAKER. UPON INSPECTION OF ALTERNATOR, DISCOVERED THAT THE POSITIVE BATTERY LUG WAS LOOSE AND HAD CAUSED A SHORT TO THE CASE. THIS CAUSED BATTERY CABLE TO MELT AND TRIP BREAKER. ALTERNATOR AND CABLE END WERE REPLACED AND THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONALLY CHECKED SATISFACTORY.

PILOT REPORTED GEAR WOULD NOT CYCLE DOWN. GEAR WAS PUMPED DOWN MANUALLY. FLUID WAS OBSERVED LEAKING FROM LEFT HYDRAULIC FILTER HOUSING. HOUSING WAS REMOVED AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LAST FEW THREADS ON THE HOUSING SIDE HAD CRACKED THROUGH. HOUSING AND O-RING WERE REPLACED AND SYSTEM SERVICED AND FUNCTIONALLY TESTED. (X)

ON LANDING APPROACH, PILOT PULLED POWER BACK TO APPROXIMATELY 25 INCHES AND NOTICED LEFT PROPELLER RPM CONTINUED TO DECREASE TO APPROXIMATELY 1,500 RPM. RE-POSITIONING THE PROPELLER LEVER SEEMED TO MAKE NO CHANGE. ENGINE POWER SEEMED OK. DID NOT TRY TO FEATHER. PROPELLER RPM SEEMED TO STABILIZE AT 1,500 JUST PRIOR TO LANDING. MAINTENANCE GROUND RAN TO FULL THROTTLE, ENGINE MADE APPROXIMATELY 34 INCHES, BUT PROP RPM STAYED AT 1,500. REPLACED PROP. FOUND CENTER TUBE STUCK AFT APPROX .75 INCH. PROP TO BE SHIPPED TO REPAIR STA TO INSPECT/REPAIR AND DETERMINE CAUSE OF FAILURE.
