FUEL SMELL NOTICED BY CREW MEMBER SITTING IN FORWARD FACING PILOT SIDE SEAT DURING TAKEOFF AND CRUISE. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS SLOWED BELOW 60 KNOTS, THE SMELL DISSAPATED AND THE CREWMEMBER REPORTED NO SMELL IN A HOVER. SMELL SEEMS TO ONLY BE PRESENT IN CABIN ABOVE 50-60 KNOTS IAS. NOTE, INSPECTION FOUND NO DISCREPANCIES, WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE DURING GROUND RUNS OR IN FLIGHT, A/C WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.
WHILE CONDUCTING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC FOUND A CRACK ON THE VERTICAL FIN FLANGE THAT MOUNTS THE TAIL ROTOR GEAR BOX COVER TO VERTICAL FIN TOP AFT CORNER. ** THIS AIRCRAFT REMAINS OUT OF SERVICE AT THE TIME OF THIS SUBMISSION PENDING REPAIR. **
APPROXIMATELY 1.5 INCH CRACK FOUND ON THE DOUBLER UNDER THE RIGHT FORWARD TRANSMISSION MOUNT.

UPPER STUD HOLDING TURBINE TO ENGINE GEAR BOX BROKE OFF AT GEARBOX 12 O'CLOCK ON BACK OF ENGINE GEAR BOX. THIS WAS FOUND DURING INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE FOR AAIP COMPLIANCE.
