CHAFING WAS DISCOVERED IN 2 PLACES ON THE ENGINE DECK (AIRBUS PN 350A21-1239.21) JUST NEAR THE SCUPPER DRAIN HOLE. THE FIRST DAMAGE AREA IS APPROXIMATELY 0.300â LONG, 0.275âWIDE, AND 0.015â DEEP AT THE DEEPEST POINT. THE SECOND DAMAGE AREA IS APPROXIMATELY 0.250â LONG, 0.200âWIDE, AND 0.012â DEEP AT THE DEEPEST POINT.
THERE IS DAMAGE ON THE TRANSMISSION DECK FRAME JUST INBOARD OF THE SPLICE. DAMAGE MEASURES AT 0.017â IS 13MM WIDE AND 5MM LONG LOCATED AT APPROX. STA 3640, BL 210R, AND WL 1839.
THERE IS CHAFFING ON THE R/H UPPER FORWARD SECTION OF THE X FRAME MEASURED AT .012â DEEP APPROX. 4MM WIDE AND 3 MM LONG.
DURING DESCENT, AROUND 6500 FEET MSL, RECEIVED AN ENGINE CHIP LIGHT. NOTIFIED APPROACH CONTROL. HEARD A POP FOLLOWED BY A DECREASE ENGINE SOUND, RAPID DESCENT AND LOW ROTOR HORN. LOWERED COLLECTIVE AND CAME MORE AFT CYCLIC AND ENTERED AN AUTO ASSUMING ENGINE FAILURE, NOTIFIED ATC. PERFORMED A FULL DOWN AUTOROTATION ON THE ROAD. WHITE SMOKE STARTED PUSHING PAST THE AIRCRAFT SIDES AND NOSE. PERFORMED AN ENGINE EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN. THE SMOKE DISSIPATED, USED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER, SAW NO FIRE OR APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT DURING INSPECTION. MAINTENANCE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS METAL CONTAMINATION ON THE ENGINE ELECTRONIC CHIP PLUG, ENGINE OIL TANK MAGNETIC PLUG, MO1 MAGNECTIC PLUG, AND EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS ON REAR BEARING STRAINER. FURTHER INSPECTION DETERMINED POSSIBLE REAR BEARING FAILURE.
AFTER ACFT ARRIVAL AT BASE, TROUBLESHOOTING AN UNRELATED DISCREPANCY. DURING WALKAROUND, FOUND A CRACK IN THE UPPER VERTICAL STABILIZER, FWD OF THE SPAR ON THE LOWER FRAME.
