MECHANIC WAS PERFORMING HIS DAILY INSPECTION & DISCOVERED A TAIL BOOM RING FRAME CRACK RUNNING VERTICAL AT RIVET ROW FS 8150MM, 320 INCHES. THE CRACK IS 45MM, 1 49/64 INCHES LONG WITH A RIVET BETWEEN BEGINNING TO END. TAIL BOOM ASSEMBLY 2001058001, SN ECE 842, MODEL L535H58382 MANUFACTURED 04/09.
DEPARTED ERLANGER IFR ON A SPECIAL USE DEPARTURE PROCEDURE. ABOUT 15 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT LEVEL 6000â IFR IN IMC CONDITIONS THE AUTO PILOT FAILED. CONTINUED FLIGHT HAND FLYING THE ACFT AND BROKE OUT INTO VFR CONDITIONS APPROX 5 MINUTES LATER AND REMAINED IN VFR CONDITIONS. (I WAS NOT GOING BACK INTO IFR CONDITIONS.) COULD NOT GET TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT VFR DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS SO I MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING AT A AIRPLANE PARK. IT WAS A MOWED FLAT GRASS FIELD APPROX THE 300â X 300â. AFTER LANDING I MADE AN ENTRY INTO ACFT LOG BOOK AND REFERRED ACFT TO MX.
EXCHANGE UNIT SENT TO ERA D/AIRMOTIVE W/O LA0845 6-9-99. COULD NOT BE USED ON AIRCRAFT DUE TO NR 4 BTP RUNOUT OUT OF LIMITS.
