FLIGHT CREW NOTICED AN ACRID SMELL IN THE CABIN AREA RESEMBLING BURNING RUBBER / PLASTIC. NO VISIBLE CUES NOTED. ALL FLIGHT AND ENGINE GAGES NORMAL. OPENED UP AREAS INSIDE THE UPPER AFT HELL HOLE AREA AND INSPECTED, ALSO CHECKED THE ENGINE BAY FOR AIR CONDITIONING BELT, BELT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, NO SMELLS UP IN THE AFT AREA AND GROUND RUN WITH A/C OFF AND ON, NO SMELLS PRESENT AT THIS TIME. ALL PANELS REINSTALLED AND SECURED. AIRCRAFT IS APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE AT THIS TIME FOR THE INSPECTION COMPLETED.

THE RADIO CONTROL HEAD IN THE CREW COMPARTMENT BEGAN VERY RAPIDLY CYCLING SEARCH MODE WHILE DEVELOPING EXCESSIVE HEAT AND FUMES. THE HELICOPTER ABORTED THE REVENUE FLIGHT AND RETURNED TO BASE. MAINTENANCE REPLACED THE FAULTY RADIO CONTROL HEAD AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.

ON COMPLETION OF A HOVERING AUTOROTATION IN THE COURSE OF A CHECKRIDE, PILOT’S HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE DURING HOVER FLIGHT. ALL ENGINE INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL DURING HOVER, ACFT WAS TAXIED TO PARK. DURING HOVER TAXI MANEUVER, A LOUD POP WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. ACFT WAS IMMEDIATELY LANDED ON RAMP AND AFTER 30 SECONDS, SHUTDOWN. FROM OUTSIDE, HEARD UNUSUAL NOISES COMING FROM ENGINE, WITH VERY SHORT AND ABNORMAL NG COAST DOWN PERIOD. COCKPIT INDICATION DISPLAYED AN UNUSUALLY RAPID NG REDUCTION AND RAPID MGT RISE. FOUND FUEL NOZZLE HAD SEPARATED, IMPACTING THE FIRST STAGE TURBINE NOZZLE AND THE FIRST STAGE TURBINE WHEEL. REPLACED THE TURBINE ASSY AND THE FUEL NOZZLE.
