Part: COAX — DAMAGED (HF SYSTEM) · airframe 8,548 hrs · 6,081 cycles

IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BOTH HF COMMUNICATIONS WOULD NOT TRANSMIT. THE CONTROLLERS COULD BE HEARD. CREW FOLLOWED REPORTS FROM PIGGY BACK, ACFT FLIGHT 1817 UNTIL THE LAST POSITION OF THE FLIGHT, AT THAT POINT COMMUNICATION VIA SATCOM. LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL. TROUBLESHOOTING RESULTED IN COAX CONNECTORS FOR BOTH THE HF COUPLERS WERE FOUND TO BE SWAPPED. CONNECTORS WERE PROPERLY SECURED ON BOTH THE HF COUPLERS WITH A SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONAL CHECK. ACFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED & DURING CLIMB TO FL350 PAXS INFORMED THE CREW OF SMOKE IN CABIN. CREW NOTICED SMOKE FILLING THE CABIN. AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED ALONG WITH AN EMERGENCY DESCENT. ACFT DIVERTED & DURING DESCENT SMOKE DISSIPATED & LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL. NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE OR SMOKE PRESENT ON THE GROUND. TROUBLESHOT THE DISCREPANCY TO A FAULTY CABIN FAN MOTOR. R & R NO DEFECTS NOTED. ACFT WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE.
