WHILE PUTTING UP THE SUN SHADE, PART OF SUNSHADE SPARKED AGAINST STANDBY COMPASS. LIGHT WAS ON DIM. SPARKED WITH LITTLE SMOKE, AND LIGHTS IN CABIN FLICKERED. SLIGHT DAMAGE TO MAG COMPASS HOUSING. REMOVED AND REPLACED DAMAGED STANDBY COMPASS BRACKET. REMOVED AND REPLACED STANDBY COMPASS. PERFORMED OPS TEST OF WINDOW/WINDSHIELD HEAT TEMP CONTROLLERS. OPS TEST GOOD.
DURING TRANSITION FROM ARRIVAL TO APPROACH, THE FLIGHT CREW OBSERVED AN OUTBOARD SPOILERON WARNING. THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, BUT DID NOT CALL FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES. NO CALL FOR BRACE WAS ISSUED TO THE PASSENGERS EITHER. THE CREW CANCELLED THEIR EMERGENCY STATUS ONCE THEY WERE SAFELY OFF THE RUNWAY. OB SPOILERONS AND OB FLT SPOILERS CAUTION MSGS IN FLIGHT. COMPLIED WITH SELF TEST OF THE SPOILER AND STABILIZER CONTROL UNITS IAW CRJ700 AMM 27-61-05-740-801. OPS CHECK GOOD NO DEFECTS NOTED. STATUS MESSAGE CLEARED.
DESCENDING IINTO PHL CREW RECEIVED OB SPOILER ON MESSAGE AND SPOILER ON MESSAGE. PERFORMED OPERATIONAL CHECK OF MFS, IAW CRJ 700 AMM 27-62-01-710-801-A01. OPS CHECK GOOD. PERFORMED LEAK CHECK OF MFS PCU, IAW CRJ 700 AMM 27-62-01-790-801-A01. LEAK CHECK GOOD. NO FURTHER FAULTS FOUND.
WHILE ON CLIMBOUT FROM MHT, CREW RECEIVED A NOSEWHEEL STEERING INOP CAUTION MESSAGE. CREW RAN THE QRH AND CONTINUED TO DCA. THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AS A PRECAUTION GOING INBOUND. THE FLIGHT LANDED ON RUNWAY 19 IN DCA AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE A TURN OFF THE RUNWAY TO RUNWAY 22 UNDER THEIR OWN POWER AND CANCELED THE EMERGENCY. CREW WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SYSTEM WITH MAINTENANCE AND TAXIED TO THE GATE WITH NO ISSUES.
BOTH AFT OUTSIDE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND AFT INTERIOR EMERGENCY LIGHTS PAST EMERGENCY DOORS ARE OUT. REMOVED AND REPLACED NR 4 EMER LIGHTS BATTERY. OPS CHECK GOOD. (PN: 2013-1ASMI SN: 76332)
