Part: CYLINDER HEAD — CRACKED (ENGINE) · airframe 10,574 hrs
DURING TAKEOFF, ENGINE EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL POWER LOSS. PILOT REMAINED IN THE PATTERN AND LANDED. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION BY MAINTENANCE PERSONELL FOUND A CRACK IN THE #4 CYLINDER. INSPECTION AFTER REMOVING THE CYLINDER REVEALED THAT A CRACK EXISTED FROM ONE SPARK PLUG HOLE TO THE OTHER SPARK PLUG HOLE. THE CRACK RAN TANGENT TO THE OUTBOARD EDGE OF THE EXHAUST VALVE SEAT. THE CYLINDER WAS REPLACED WITH A SERVICABLE PART.

DURING A SCHEDULED INSPECTION, THE LT MAGNETO WOULD NOT TIME CORRECTLY TO THE ENGINE. THE MAGNETO WAS REMOVED AND UPON DISASSEMBLY IT WAS FOUND THAT 1 OF THE PN 3040, MAGNETO COIL WEDGES HAD COME LOOSE AND WAS JAMMED NEXT TO THE MAGNETO POINTS PREVENTING PROPER OPERATION OF THE POINTS. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THIS MAGNETO DURING THE PRE-INSPECTION OPS CHECK.
