ON TAXI OUT THE CAPTAIN/FO BEGAN TO SMELL A BURNING SMELL THEN GOT A CALL FROM THE FA IN THE BACK SAYING THERE IS SMOKE. THE PAX THEN EVACUATED THROUGH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR ON THE TAXIWAY. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE CENTER OF THE AIRCRAFT ACCORDING TO THE FA. EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED. PAX WERE BUSED BACK TO THE TERMINAL. NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME. BRIDGE WAS FORMED BECAUSE OF THIS EVENT. RH PACK AUTO FAIL. DEFERRED RH PACK IAW CRJ 900 MEL 21-51-01-3. RAM AIR SOV VERIFIED OPERATIVE. NO M FUNCTION REQUIRED. REPLACED ACM.
DURING OVERNIGHT MAINTENANCE AT DAYTON, OH (DAY), TECHNICIANS FOUND A DENT IN THE TOP FUSELAGE NOSE SKIN PANEL CENTERED ON THE PANEL AND LOCATED SLIGHTLY AFT OF THE FS 169 SPLICE. THE DENT MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 4.6ÿ½ X 4.5ÿ½ X .15ÿ½ DEEP AND IS NOT WITHIN ALLOWABLE DAMAGE LIMITS DUE SIZE OF DENT AND DEPTH EXCEEDING ZONE 1 LIMITATIONS. DURING CLIMB, RECEIVED BRAKE OVERHEAT MSG. CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO CLT. TRUCKS DID ROLL. AIRCRAFT LANDED AND WAS INSPECTED BY FIRE DEPT. AIRCRAFT THEN TAXIED TO THE GATE. MX DEFERRED RH IB BRAKE TEMP INDICATION. REMOVED AND REPLACED RH IB BRAKE TEMP SENSOR. OPS CHECK GOOD.
AFTER TAKEOFF, THE CREW RECEIVED A NOSEWHEEL STEERING INOPERATIVE MESSAGE. RAN THE QRH, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. CREW PERFORMED SYSTEM RESET, PROBLEM DID NOT RE-OCCUR.
ON FINAL, CREW REPORTED THEY PUT THE LANDING GEAR LEVER DOWN, AFTER 10 SEC GEAR NEVER EXTENDED. CREW HAD TO UTILIZE THE MANUAL RELEASE TO DROP THE GEAR FOR LANDING. MAINTENANCE FOUND THE LANDING GEAR SELECTOR VALVE WAS AT FAULT AND IT WAS REPLACED.
RIGHT INBOARD FLAP LOWER SKIN DENTED. REPAIRED THE SKIN.
ELEVATOR SPLIT CAUTION MESSAGE. PERFORMED OPERATIONAL CHECKS AND CABLE TENSION CHECKS, NO DEFECTS NOTED.
