DURING CLIMB A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE BEGAN EMANATING FROM THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE CAPTAIN-SIDE WINDSHIELD NEAR THE CONTROL PANEL AREA. THE CREW OBSERVED THAT THE ODOR WAS METALLIC AND CONSISTENT WITH AN ELECTRICAL OR HEATING SOURCE AND IMMEDIATELY CEASED AFTER THE WINDSHIELD HEAT SYSTEM WAS DEACTIVATED. AIRCRAFT LANDED AT KMDW WITHOUT INCIDENT. REPLACED LEFT WINDSHIELD ASSEMBLY. PERFORMED SATISFACTORY WINDSHIELD ANTI-ICE CHECKS AND PRESSURIZATION LEAK CHECKS WITH NO FURTHER DEFECTS NOTED IAW BD-100 AMM 56-11-01.

DURING CLIMB OUT OF KPSP, THE CREW EXPERIENCED A LOUD NOISE FOLLOWED BY A JOLT, HARSH GRINDING SOUND, NOTICEABLE YAW AND A BRIEF L ENG EXCEED CAS MESSAGE, EMERGENCY DECLARED. AFTER REDUCING POWER, A HARSH GRINDING SOUND WAS HEARD. PROCEDURES FOLLOWED FOR ENGINE SHUTDOWN. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT AT KPSP.
AIR TURN BACK DUE TO LT FADEC FAIL CAS AT 4000 FT. CREW ROLLED ENG TO IDLE & FOLLOWED SINGLE ENG CHECKLIST. ACFT LANDED SAFELY WITH NO FURTHER ISSUE. R & R LT ENG ECUB. OPERATIONAL CHECK WAS GOOD WITH NO FAULTS NOTED.
