THIS EO PROVIDES INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPLY WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO THE RH HORIZONTAL STABILIZER FROM SB 170-55-0014, WHICH ACCOMPLISHES A STRUCTURAL MODIFICATION THAT CONSISTS OF REPLACING HORIZONTAL STABILIZER RIBS 10A, 11A, AND 12A WITH NEW, REINFORCED RIBS. THIS MODIFICATION IS DESIGNED TO HELP PREVENT POSSIBLE CRACKS ON THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CENTER BOX RIBS AND TO REACH THE AIRCRAFT ECONOMICAL FATIGUE LIFE. COMPASS ENGINEERING HAS CLASSIFIED THIS MODIFICATION AS A MAJOR ALTERATION. ONE OR MORE OF THE RIBS THAT ARE BEING REPLACED AS PART OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN WERE FOUND CRACKED DURING AN INSPECTION WHILE AT BASIC CHECK. BY ACCOMPLISHING SB 170-55-0014, THIS EO ALSO PROVIDES A REPAIR BY REPLACEMENT OF THE AFFECTED RIB(S). COMPASS ENGINEERING HAS CLASSIFIED THIS REPAIR AS A MAJOR REPAIR. THIS EO IS BEING MADE EFFECTIVE TO ALL DELTA AIRCRAFT FOR WHICH SB 170-55-0014 IS APPLICABLE, BUT A MAXIMO EVENT WILL ONLY BE GENERATED FOR AN AIRCRAFT WHEN ONE OR MORE RIBS ARE FOUND CRACKED. THE ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS OF THIS EO WERE DERIVED FROM EMBRAER SERVICE BULLETIN 170-55-0014; THEREFORE, A COPY OF THIS SB IS NOT NEEDED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS EO.
DURING BASIC CHECK IN BNA, AN APPROXIMATELY 4.5 INCH LONG CRACK WAS DISCOVERED ON THE VERTICAL STABILIZER RT SKIN JUST AFT OF THE HOISTING POINT. REQUESTED AND RECEIVED PERMANENT REPAIR APPROVAL IN THE FORM OF ETD2018-170-121165 AND ITS CORRESPONDING ANAC DER FORM. THIS EO IS BEING ISSUED TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCOMPLISH THE PERMANENT REPAIR OF THE CRACK DAMAGE LOCATED AT RIB 12 JUST AFT OF THE REAR SPAR ON THE P/N 170-63701-013 RT SKIN OF THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. THE DAMAGE WILL BE REPAIRED BY CUT OUT AND DOUBLER INSTALLATION PER ETD2018-170-121165. BECAUSE THE VERTICAL STABILIZER SKIN IS A PSE AND THIS REPAIR IS RESTORING STRENGTH, ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THIS EO HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A MAJOR REPAIR. THIS IS BEING ACCOMPLISHED BY EO E175-55MR-028.
CORROSION HAS BEEN FOUND ON THE FWD CARGO DOORWAY â FWD FITTING P/N 170-66803-401, CENTER FITTING P/N 170-66804-401, AND/OR AFT FITTING P/N 170-66803-402 ON SEVERAL COMPASS AIRCRAFT DURING BASIC CHECK. SINCE EMBRAER CLASSIFIES THESE FITTINGS AS PSES, COMPASS HAS CLASSIFIED REPLACEMENT OF THESE FITTINGS AS A MAJOR REPAIR. IN LIEU OF CONTINUING TO WRITE INDIVIDUAL EOS FOR EACH AIRCRAFT. THIS EO IS BEING ISSUED TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ON CONDITION REPAIR OF CORRODED OR DAMAGED FWD CARGO DOORWAY - FWD, CENTER, AND AFT LOWER SEAL REST FITTINGS BY PART REPLACEMENT. THE REPLACEMENT IS ACCOMPLISHED USING THE EMBRAER PRODUCTION DRAWINGS AND SRM CHAPTER 51 PROCEDURES. SINCE THE DAMAGED STRUCTURE IS BEING REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS PER THE PRODUCTION DRAWINGS, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE REMAINS IN ITS ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION. THEREFORE, NO CHANGES TO THE EXISTING INSPECTION PROGRAM ARE REQUIRED. EO E17X-5300-007 HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED FLEETWIDE ON THE AIRCRAFT EFFECTIVE TO THIS EO TO COMPLY WITH SB 170-53-0104 BY ADDING DRAIN HOLES TO THE AFFECTED PARTS FROM THIS REPLACEMENT EO. ADDITIONAL SURFACE PROTECTION AND CIC WAS ALSO ADDED TO PREVENT FUTURE CORROSION IN THE AREA. RELEVANT ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS FROM EO E17X-5300-007 HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THIS EO TO MAINTAIN THE CONFIGURATION OF THE AIRCRAFT. REV 1: IS BEING ISSUED TO INCLUDE ALL E175 FLEET EFFECTIVITY. REV 2: THIS REVISION IS BEING ISSUED TO ADD A STEP BEFORE THE FINAL STEP TO ENSURE AN SDR WAS SUBMITTED FOR THIS REPAIR. FORWARD SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 5" AFT OF FR 05 AND AFT SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 11.10" AFT OF FR 05. THE BOTTOM SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 0.05 INCHES ABOVE STGR 22R AND TOP SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 1.0 INCH BELOW STGR 21R. THE DENT HAS THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS: H = 0.138", W = 6.10" AND L = 3.90".

FORWARD SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 5" AFT OF FR 05 AND AFT SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 11.10" AFT OF FR 05. THE BOTTOM SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 0.05" ABOVE STGR 22R AND TOP SIDE OF DENT IS LOCATED 1.0" BELOW STGR 21R. THE DENT HAS THE FOLLOWING DIMENSIONS: H = 0.138", W = 6.10" AND L = 3.90".
