MED CREW REPORTS A FUEL ODOR WHILE IN FLIGHT. PERFORMED VISUAL INSPECTION OF ALL VIABLE FUEL LINES, FUEL SUMPS, FUEL NOZZLE, AND FUEL FILTERS, IAW AMM DMC 407-A-24-00-00-130A-A. NO LEAKS NOTED AT THIS TIME.
DURING REPOSITION FLIGHT TO THE AIRPORT (3 MILES) CREW REPORTED A FUEL SMELL IN THE AIRCRAFT. LANDED AT PLANNED LOCATION, WROTE UP DISCREPANCY, AND CALLED MX.
DURING FLIGHT, I HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND SAW A FLASH ON THE LOWER PORTION OF THE CENTER CONSOLE FOLLOWED BY AN ELECTRICAL BURN SMELL. I IMMEDIATELY CHANGED MY COURSE TO A SAFE LANDING LOCATION. ONCE THE LANDING PHASE WAS SET I CHECKED ALL MY INSTRUMENTS AND LIGHTING TO MAKE SURE NO OTHER FAILURES OCCURRED. INFORMED OF MY INTENTIONS TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. ON THE GROUND SAFELY, ALL NECESSARY PHONE CALLS WERE MADE TO THE APPROPRIATE PERSONAL. NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE AT THE TIME
FUEL SMELL NOTICED FROM CREW AND PILOT UPON RETURN FLIGHT FROM GOODYEAR. INSPECTION FOUND FUEL CAP SEAL HAD A TEAR REPLACED CAP. MAINTENANCE FLIGHT STILL HAD FUEL ODOR IN CABIN. RETURNED TO BASE. PRESSURIZED SYSTEM FOR 2 HOURS AND NOTICED DROP IN PRESSURE INSPECTION FINDING FUEL LEAKING FROM CAVITY DRAINS. OPENED UP INTERIOR AND FOUND FUEL WET FROM FORWARD FUEL CELL AREA. FERRY PERMIT APPLIED FOR AND AIRCRAFT RELOCATED TO BUL:AZM MAINTENANCE FOR FURTHER EVALUATION AND REPAIRS.
THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME IN ONE-WEEK FADEC DEGRADE/RESTART FAULT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE CAUTION WARNING PANEL DURING RUN UP. AFTER CONNECTING TO THE ECU WITH A COMPUTER, FAULTS WFMVFLT AND WFMVRTFLT WERE FOUND, THESE SAME FAULTS WERE FOUND ON THE PREVIOUS INCIDENTS. AFTER PERFORMING PISTON PARKING PROCEDURE, CLEARING FAULTS AND PERFORMING SOME TROUBLESHOOTING I SPOKE WITH ROLLS ROYCE REP. GREG HOUSTON, WHO ADVISED REPLACING THE HMU.
TWO AREAS OF CONCERN FOUND ON RT OUTER FUSALAGE SKIN. FIRST IS A CRACK ABOUT .7500" AT BS 163 & SECOND IS A OUTER SKIN DEBONDING AT BS 198.
