AIRCRAFT WAS GROUNDED: ELECTRICAL SMOKE SMELL DURING FLIGHT AT FL340 ABOUT 3-5 MINS DURATION. THEN COMPLETELY DISSIPATED. SMELL CAME FROM AREA OF 2F-1RLAV AND THERE WAS EXCESSIVE "FAN" NOISE DURING THE EVENT WHICH ALSO WENT AWAY WHEN THE SMELL DID. MAINTENANCE PERFORMED T/S PER J/C 72L00021001. ENGINE THRUST LEFT APPEARED MOMENTARILY. THROTTLE REDUCED AND STALL CLEARED. THE ENGINE THEN RAN NORMALLY. RETURNED TO JFK AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
