THE PIC DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO EWR AND LANDED SAFELY. MX: 1) PERFORMED ENGINE COMPARTMENT INSPECTION IAW C208 AMM 71-00-01. NO DEFECT NOTED. PERFORMED ENGINE RUN IAW MANUFACTURE. PILOTS OPERATING HANDBOOK. NO NOXIOUS FUMES OR OTHER SMELLS DETECTED. LUBRICATED FLAP BELL CRANK IAW C208-MM-12-21-02. FLAP OPERATED FREE AND CORRECT. PERFORMED OPS CHECK ON FLAP NORMAL AND STBY FLAP SYSTEM, CYCLED BOTH NORMAL AND STBY SYSTEM INDIVIDUALLY, IAW MM-27-50-00, ALL FLAP POSITION CYCLED WITHOUT POPPING FLAP CB.
AILERON, RUDDER AND ELEVATOR TRIM TOO STIFF, ELEVATOR TRIM SOMETIMES JAMS DURING FLIGHT. TROUBLESHOOT ALERON TRIM IAW C208 MM CH 27-10-02 PG 101 AND LUBED SYSTEM IAW MM 27-10-02 PG 601. TROUBLESHOOT RUDDER TRIM IAW MM 27-20-02 PG 102 AND LUBED FLEX SHAFT ASST IAW MM 27-20-00. TROUBLESHOOT ELEVATOR TRIM SYSTEM FOUND RIGHT ELEVATOR TRIM ACTUATOR 4 TEETH OUT OF RIG, RE-RIGGED SYSTEM IAW M/M 27-30-02 PG 210, SYSTEM CHECKED GOOD IAW CH 27-30-03 P1.
ON THE FLIGHT INTO 6NC1 THE PILOT SMELLED BURNT/ SMOLDERING ELECTRICAL SMELL, THERE WAS NO SMOKE SEEN. MAINTENANCE PERFORMED SEVERAL ENGINE RUNS AT VARIOUS POWER SETTINGS TO INCLUDE MAX. TORQUE OF 1850 FOR VARYING TIMES WITH NO SMELL OF ELECTRICAL ODER. AS A PRECAUTION THE STARTER GENERATOR WAS REPLACED IAW C208 M/M 80-10-00. THE SYSTEM CHECKED GOOD AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS RETURN TO SERVICE.
