IN ROUTE TO SENDING FACILITY FOR PATIENT PICKUP. 5 MILES NORTH OF THE FACILITY ENTIRE CREW COULD SMELL WHAT SEEMED LIKE ELECTRICAL BURNING FUMES IN THE BACK AND FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS NO APPARENT SMOKE. NO CIRCUIT BREAKERS POPPED. AMPS AND VOLTS LOOKED NORMAL AND NO CAUTION LIGHTS. ABORTED FLIGHT UNTIL CAUSE COULD BE DETERMINED AND FIXED.

LONGITUDINAL FRAME CAP LT CORRODED UNDER SEAT TRACK EXTENSION. INTERGRANULAR CORROSION ON LT LONGITUDINAL FRAME CAP ANGLE AT THE JUNCTION OF THE FWD AND AFT FLOOR SECTIONS. THIS CORROSION WAS FOUND DURING A SCHEDULED HEAVY MAINTENANCE INSPECTION, AND REMAINS OUT OF SERVICE AT THIS TIME PENDING AN APPROVED REPAIR FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

WHILE THE PILOT WAS LANDING AT THE BASE, THE CREW DETECTED FUMES IN THE AIRCRAFT CREW COMPARTMENT. THE NR 2 GPS LOST POWER SHORTLY THEREAFTER. COMPLETED THE LANDING AND SHUT DOWN THE AIRCRAFT. MECHANIC TROUBLESHOT THE PROBLEM TO AN INTERNAL SHORT OF THE DIMMING SYSTEM ON NR 2 GPS. REPLACED WITH REPAIRED UNIT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATIONALLY CHECKED WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED, AND RETURNED TO SERVICE AT THAT TIME.
