SUSPECTED ENGINE FAILURE IN FLIGHT, RESULTING IN ACFT DITCHING.
ON CLIMBOUT, AT APPROXIMATELY 2600 FT OF FLIGHT, THE PILOT REPORTED SMOKE COMING INTO THE COCKPIT FROM THE RT SIDE VENT. ALSO NOTICED AN ODOR OF BURNING OIL. ALL ENGIME INSTRUMENTS INDICATION WERE NORMAL. THE PILOT ELECTED TO RETURN TO AIRPORT. THE ACFT LANDED WITH OUT FURTHER INCIDENT. REPLACED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE CHECK GOOD AND THE ACFT WAS RETURN TO SERVICE.
DURING TAXI OUT, ACFT HAD NO BRAKING ACTION ON THE RT BRAKE PEDAL. THE PILOT RETURNED THE ACFT TO THE RAMP. MAINTENANCE AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING, BLED THE BRAKES IAW THE MM. THE SYS CHECKED GOOD AND THE ACFT WAS RETURN TO SERVICE.
THE PIC REPORTED A SMOKE SMELL AND SAW SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DID AN AIR TURNBACK AND LANDED SAFELY. TAXIED CLEAR OF THE RUNWAY AND WAS MET BY EMERGENCY RESPONDERS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHUT DOWN AND TOWED TO THE RAMP. TROUBLESHOOTING IS NOW IN PROGRESS.
STRUCTURAL DEFECT DISCOVERED DURING SCHEDULED INSPECTION (PHASE 5). METAL FATIGUE, CANTED BULKHEAD, STRUCTURAL REPAIR INITIATED, AND WORK IS IN PROCESS.
