WINDSHIELD HEAT NR 2 FAIL MESSAGE APPEARED WHEN SELECTED ON DURING DESENT. ELECTRIC BURNING SMELL SHORTLY AFTER. FOLLOWED QRH PROCEDURES AND PERFORMED A NORMAL APPROACH AND LANDING. FOUND WINDOW HEAT CONTROLLER TO BE FAILED. PLACED WINDOW HEAT SYS ON MEL 30-42-02 AND PERFORMED SPECIAL PROCEDURES SP-30-42-02, PULLED AND SAFETIED THE WINDSHIELD TEMP CB J20. ALSO, FOUND WINDSHIELD TO BE DELAMINATED WITHIN MFG ALLOWABLE LIMITS. NO WINDSHIELD DELAMINATION NOTED WITHIN THE HEATED AREA. PLACED AOG ORDER FOR WINDOW HEAT CONTROLLER AND RT WINDSHIELD.
ON CLIMB OUT, THROUGH APPROX 17,000, FLT ATTENDANT REPORTED THAT WHEN THE PC-POWER SYSTEM WAS TURNED ON, 1 PASSENGER MOMENTARILY SMELLED A FAINT ODOR, WHICH CAME & WENT QUICKLY, SMELLING LIKE ELECTRICAL SMOKE. NO OTHER PASSENGER IN THE AREA NOTED THE ODOR, NOR DID THE FLT ATTENDANT. AS A PRECAUTION, PC-POWER SYSTEM TURNED OFF. QRH PROCEDURES REVIEWED REGARDING SMOKE/ODOR IN CABIN, NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED. NO FURTHER ISSUES NOTED DURING FLT. MX POWERED UP ACFT ELECTRICAL SYS & OBSERVED FOR 1 HOUR. ALL INTERIOR SYS OPS NORMAL, NO ODORS NOTED. MULTIPLE OPS CHECKS OF PC-POWER SYS REVEALED SEATS 7BC DID NOT POWER UP & TEST PROPERLY. ENTIRE PC-POWER SYS PLACED ON MEL 25-60-02, PLACARDS AFFIXED & CIRCUIT BREAKERS PULLED & COLLARED. R & R ISPC IN ROW 7BC. INSPECTED WIRING & FOUND NO DEFECTS. SYS OPS FOR A TOTAL OF 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED. AMM TASK 24-20-05-400-801-A SYS HAS BEEN REACTIVATED, CB RESET & PLACARDS REMOVED. CLEARED MEL 25-60-02.
14K FT NOTICED A FLASH OF LIGHT THAT APPEARED TO BE BELOW THE AIRCRAFT. THE CREW REPORTED NO AIRCRAFT ANOMALIES AS A RESULT OF THE SUSPECTED NEAR LIGHTNING STRIKE. FO PERFORMED THE POST FLT INSP AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED A PIN HOLE IN THE NOSE GEAR DOOR. CAPTAIN CONFIRMED AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. THE REMOVAL OF THE AILERON WAS INITIATED. THE ALTERNATIVE TO MOVE THE PART TO THE UNITED AIRLINES COMPOSITE REPAIR SHOP IN SFO WAS EXECUTED. REPAIRS WHERE MADE PER THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL, AND AN ASG MECHANIC REMAINED IN THE AREA TO TRANSPORT THE REPAIRED PARTS TO MHR. THE AIRCRAFT HAD ALL OF THE BELLY REWORK ACCOMPLISHED DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD. REINSTALLATION WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND THE REQUIRED INSPECTIONS COMPLETED AND SIGNED.
DURING ADDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE INSPECTION, IT WAS AGAIN NOTED THE AIRFRAME BLEED AIR CHECK VALVE V-BAND CLAMPS WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY IAW COMMON INDUSTRY PRACTICE OR AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CLAMP MANUFACTURE.
