Maintenance disclosure history

Service Difficulty Reports are self-reported maintenance findings. The NUMBER of reports is not a measure of reliability — diligent operators file more, not fewer. These are shown for transparency, not as a negative signal. To verify a report, search its control number at the FAA SDRS site.

Reports span 2023–2023. Most-reported systems: Landing gear (32) — 1; Engine (72) — 1. Most-common natures of condition, as filed: OTHER — 1; SMOKE/FUMES/ODORS/SPARKS — 1.

Part: UNKNOWN — UNKNOWN (UNKNOWN) · airframe 3,609 hrs · 3,038 cycles

ENGINE START AND TAXI WERE BOTH NORMAL IN GROUND IDLE. UPON ACCELERATION AND ROTATION IN FLIGHT IDLE, A DISTINCT SMELL OF "BURNING RUBBER" WAS NOTICED THAT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE OVER THE NEXT 10 SECONDS. AT APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET, THE PILOT ELECTED TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY, DON AN OXYGEN MASK, RETURNED TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT, AND EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE. THEY INDICATED THE ODOR WAS STILL NOTICEABLE UPON EXITING THE AIRCRAFT. NO SMOKE OR MIST WAS EVER VISIBLE. A GENERAL VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE WAS PERFORMED. IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THERE HAD BEEN AN OVERAPPLICATION OF CORROSION INHIBITOR TO THE INLET. PERFORMED COMPRESSOR PERFORMANCE RECOVERY WASH AND COMPRESSOR TURBINE WASH. UPON A SUBSEQUENT RUN OF THE AIRCRAFT THE SMELL HAD DIMINISHED.

NOTE: THIS REPORT IS A FOLLOW UP TO INITIAL REPORT 525B0363_001. UPON AIRCRAFT TOUCHDOWN IN SAN JOSE, CA (SJC) A "PWR BRAKE LOW PRESS" ANNUNCIATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CREW ENCOUNTERED NORMAL BRAKING POWER UNTIL TURNING OFF THE RUNWAY AT WHICH POINT NO NORMAL BRAKE PRESSURE WAS AVAILABLE. THE CREW UTILIZED THE EMERGENCY PNEUMATIC BRAKE HANDLE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT CLEAR OF THE RUNWAY AND AWAIT A TOW TO THE RAMP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS BLED AND THE OPERATIONAL AND LEAK TEST WAS NORMAL.
