REF: FA25221 - GIV-SP 1305 TRANSPONDER UNSERVICEABLE BARCELONA TOWER COULD NOT SEE N44GV ON THEIR GROUND SURVEILLANCE RADAR AND REFUSED TAXI CLEARANCE. THE CREW PLACED THE AIRCRAFT IN AIR MODE BY PULLING NUTCRACKER CBS, AT THIS POINT BARCELONA TOWER COULD SEE THEM HOWEVER IT SHOWED N44GV IN AIR MODE. REPLACEMENT TRANSPONDER NO1 SLAVED IN AND TESTED WITH SAME RESULT. DISCUSSION WITH TECH OPS AND COLLINS SUGGESTED WHEN ON GROUND, ONLY THE UPPER ATC ANTENNA SHOULD WORK, LOWER ANTENNA ARE INHIBITED. PULLING CBS FORCED LOWER ANTENNA TO BE USED. CONTINUITY CHECKS OF ATC ANTENNAE FROM ATC RACKS, ACROSS CENTRE PIN AND OUTER (THROUGH ANTENNA), FOUND BOTH UPPER ATC ANTENNA COAXES TO BE OPEN CIRCUIT. INVESTIGATION CARRIED OUT AND FOUND BOTH UPPER ATC ANTENNA COAX CONNECTORS TO BE DISCONNECTED. ONCE ANTENNA COAXES HAD BEEN CONNECTED, SYSTEM WORKED CORRECTLY AND BARCELONA TOWER COULD THEN SEE N44GV ON THEIR GROUND RADAR.

UNDER THE UPPER DOOR FOR THE ENGINE, THE 14TH STAGE BLEED AIR LINE P/N 228-56336-103 (13866-101 REV B) S/N K97991 WAS FOUND TO BE RUPTURED. THE LINE IS DESTROYED AND THE INNER CORE COWL UPPER DOOR SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR, BUT EXTERIOR OF DOOR REMAINED INTACT.

NO LOSS OF CABIN PRESSURIZATION OCCURRED AND THE FLIGHT CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY TO PERFORM AN EMERGENCY DECENT FOR SAFETY MEASURES AND DIVERTED TO KMCO. NO OTHER ABNORMAL PROCEDURES OR ACTIONS WERE TAKEN BY THE CREW SINCE THERE WERE NO OTHER INDICATIONS OF ANY OTHER SECONDARY ISSUES OR MALFUNCTIONING SYSTEMS OR COMPONENTS. AFTER LANDING SAFELY AT KMCO AND UPON THE POST FLIGHT WALK AROUND THE CREW DISCOVERED THAT THE LH ENGINE HAD EVIDENCE OF INGESTING PIECES OF THE WINDOW AND A FEW FAN BLADES HAD DAMAGE TO THEM.
